Dark Underarms?

Bumpy Underarms?

Unsightly Underarms?

And the list is endless. For sure, underarm woes are very difficult to bring up, but let's face it: not everyone is gifted with flawless underarms.

Don't worry, I won't be posting unsightly underarm photos in this post.

A few years back, I was extremely worried by how my underarms looked then. It was a total mess, and all these whitening UA products all fail in whitening my dark UA areas. For your reference, I have fair skin but my UA skin were noticeably darker than the rest. I have chicken skin, too, despite waxing on a regular basis.

It was really a nightmare: wearing sleeveless tops was not even an option! Unless, of course, if you're somebody who could afford derma sessions on a regular basis. Prettifying your armpits would be a cinch! Sadly, I was one of those many people who could not afford a Belo or Calayan's services.

Green Peeling Oil (GPO)

Year 2011, I came across a forum discussing potential solutions to dark and bumpy armpits. The thread was lengthy, but the discussion on the Green Peeling Oil caught my attention.

What is Green Peeling Oil?

From what I researched, Green Peeling Oil is a concoction of Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Tretinoin, Salicylic Acid, and Citric Acid. A quick analysis on COSDNA reveals the following:

IngredientFunctionAcneIrritantSafety
Glycolic AcidExfoliator
Whitening
Lactic AcidAstringent
Whitening
TretinoinExfoliator
Antioxidant
Salicylic AcidExfoliator
Whitening

The last two ingredients, Tretinoin and Salicylic Acid's safety bar are raised higher than the rest. A quick search, once again, revealed that both are crucial in skin treatments, but could cause certain side effects as well. Side effects, such as burning sensation, itchiness, redness, are just few of the things that we would have to consider when using GPOs.

I really don't have an idea on what makes the liquid green, but it promises to take away all your skin's imperfections by shedding a layer of your skin a few days after application. GPOs can be used on armpits, legs, arms, and even on the face, at least according to sellers' claims,

My Experience on Green Peeling Oil

Four years ago, I decided to give the Green Peeling Oil a try. I ordered a couple of sets online, which included a small bottle of GPO, and a jar of hydrocortisone cream. I forgot to which store I bought my GPO from. I couldn't even recall the brand. Nonetheless, I think all GPOs by then looked the same. Packaging was not even 'commercial' to begin with. Labels were lopsidedly placed, as if the products were homemade.

I admit I was skeptical upon seeing the actual product. Don't they need to have a BFAD approval for this? And it was extremely cheap. Php 500 would have been too much for the two sets.

But, if it works, why not?

So, I decided to use it on my armpits.

I followed everything that the directions indicate, including not peeling the dead skin off! And yes, I didn't wash my underarms for a long time (a week or two, maybe?) I couldn't recall much, but all I know is that I followed everything - even the gross part.

Within the treatment period, I noticed that my skin did shed off - a little bit at first, and eventually, a huge part of my dead skin!

The peeling didn't hurt, but the 'new' skin underneath was extremely sensitive and tender, and it was red, too, much like 'red meat'.

But, I tell you. It was a HELLISH experience.

A few hours after the 'red meat' was exposed, I began to experience severe itching. Everything around my pits were sooo red, and itchy, and disgusting, that I panicked. The hydrocort that the GPO came with, to my dismay, didn't work! It felt as if it's making the whole situation worse.

I even considered visiting a dermatologist for it, but I didn't - out of shame, maybe. Plus, I didn't even wash my pits then for fear that I might ruin the whole process!

I think the whole ordeal lasted for a month. Even when the dead skin was completely shed off, and I was then allowed to wash my pits on a regular basis, I had to suffer from irritation and from redness.

The results

But the hellish experience was not for nothing. A couple of months after treatment, I noticed that my new skin was flawless, and white. It is indeed new skin! And, it doesn't have bumps! Overall, I'm really happy with the results.

However, as the years passed by, the new skin have developed bumps of its own, but not as bad as it used to be. I noticed it became a little dark as well, but it doesn't matter much. I could cope with it.

I didn't repeat the process, despite seeing my 'new' skin develop small bumps and all. I realized I couldn't go through another hellish experience with GPO. Besides, my pits are still pretty, and I think I've done a pretty decent job of maintaining them.

So, obviously, it's a NO REBUY FOR GREEN PEELING OILS.

How about you?

Have you used Green Peeling Oils before? How was it?

Say Goodbye to Ugly Underarms? Is Green Peeling Oil GPO Effective? (Review)

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

My sincerest apologies; I know, I’ve been away for almost a month. I know it’s a cliché, but I was extremely busy in the past weeks. School was demanding, and work was even more demanding! There wasn’t much that I could do about it. Thankfully, I’m now free… Wait. For the meantime, though. Sigh..

Anyway, for today, let me review another Korean product. Still, from the Etude House, let me introduce the Etude House ‘Put Your Hands Up’ Stick Perfume Deodorant in 40g. I heard this was released by Etude, sometime in 2011, but too bad, I wasn’t updated by then.

Original Etude House ad

First time I saw this, I instantly fell in love. It was so darn cute! Whoever is behind this cute packaging, must be a genius!

You guessed it right. I bought it right away, but eventually, I realized it was too expensive for a deodorant. I mean, I couldn’t remember buying a deodorant that is more than 300 pesos at all. Is it my first? This baby is actually worth close to Php 400. Talk about expensive!

Anyway, like I always said, if it’s worth it, it’s worth it. Now, let’s get down to business.

Basically, the E.H. Perfume Stick Deo (as shown on its packaging) is a stick-type deodorant having dual caring effect to restrain sweat and its odor to keep freshness with citrus scent.

Scent

First time I opened it, I was greeted by a warm citrusy scent, which I happen to love. However, the scent didn’t last long as soon as I applied it on my skin. Fast forward, 4 months after first use, and I could barely smell the citrusy scent on the product. I found it rather disappointing, but possibly a good thing for those who are extremely sensitive with scents.

Texture

One look, and you’ll know that it’s your typical stick perfume. However, try to put some product on ‘wet’ armpits, and you’ll find a rather peculiar chemical reaction. In my case, I was surprised to find the creamy substance beginning to turn to foam. Yes, another first time. This is the first deodorant that actually turned foamy as soon as it was applied to ‘wet’ armpits. What does this foam do?

Your typical perfume stick; Waxy texture but glides smoothly on skin

Anti-Perspirant and Deodorant

Based on its description, it’s appears that the product serves a dual purpose. First, it could be an anti-perspirant and second, a deodorant. Sadly, as an antiperspirant, it doesn't do well. If you live in a hot and humid country like ours, you would be definitely disappointed to find your armpits foaming with the product. If you do, this means that it failed as an antiperspirant. Put it on wet armpits, and it would definitely turn to foam, nothing more. Good thing though, it doesn't stain clothes.

The deodorant when applied on to the skin: almost colorless, and doesn't leave a sticky feel

As a deodorant, it doesn't do much as well. Deodorants are supposed to mask the odor with pleasant scents, in this case, citrus. However, since the citrus scent doesn't last long at all, I’m afraid that anybody who suffer from excessive sweating might find this a problem as well.

Verdict

I think I rate this product with a 3.00 out of 5.00. It’s cute and it’s definitely travel-friendly, but I don’t think it lived up to my expectations. At a price of almost Php 400, sadly, it is just your typical fancy deodorant. I think I’ll settle with my Dove deodorant after I use this all up.

Sorry, Etude… L

Have you used this deodorant before? Please let me know what you think!

Love,

Review: Etude House Put Your Hands Up Deo Perfume Stick

Wednesday, December 25, 2013

I checked my cosmetics collection once again, only to find out that I’m running out of Nature Republic A-Kit Wash from the Nature Republic The Salon Body Esthe A-Fit Kit. I decided that before I use up everything, I should at least give you an idea on what it is, and how it works.

Last month, I decided to buy this kit on a whim, together with the Tonymoly Floria Pore-Tightening Cleansing Foam. I have never tried the Nature Republic brand before, and neither Tonymoly. Both purchases were a first for me and both were bought online. Unfortunately, Tonymoly was a bad purchase, as I mentioned in my blog post here.

Luckily, Nature Republic’s A-Kit performed way better than I imagined.

Read on if you’d like to know why.

Close Look

The said kit contains two tubes: one is the A-Fit Wash 80ml and the other is the A-Fit Clear Cream in 50ml.

Nature Republic A-Fit Wash

According to its description, it is a mild scrub that could exfoliate the armpit; it promises to make your skin smoother and silkier. Most of all, it is said to be mineral oil-free, alcohol-free, synthetic dye-free, GMO-free and BSE-free.

The A-Fit Wash: Almost looks like facial cleanser

Nature Republic A-Fit Clear Cream

The A-Fit Clear Cream, on the other hand promises to whiten and moisturize the underarms. It also promises to minimize its pores and control odor; and just like the A-Fit wash, the cream is said to be mineral oil-free, alcohol-free, synthetic dye-free, GMO-free and BSE-free.

The A-Fit Cream

My Experience

I bought it at around 500 pesos (excluding shipping) online, and with two tubes at 50ml and 80ml, I initially thought that it was a great steal. It indeed was.

 The Wash

The Wash is like a mild facial cleanser, in terms of texture and consistency, and surprisingly, it doesn’t look like facial scrub at all. It lathers well, and a small amount of the wash should go a long way. Not much is needed, but it’s really good. I’m pretty satisfied with it.

However, I am quite suspicious with its composition. The ads tell me that it’s supposedly paraben-free etc., but not much has been said in its original packaging. Sadly, almost all of the texts written are in Korean. Please correct me if I’m wrong; I’m not a chemist or anything like that, but something tells me that the ad must be misleading us. For instance, it’s supposedly synthetic dye-free, but I could clearly see that the wash has some sort of a light green color to it. Would it be possible to achieve that kind of appearance without the use of synthetic chemicals?

If you’re sensitive enough, you might smell the light fragrance of the wash; the fragrance is somewhat close to baby powder, but it goes away as soon as you lather it with water.

The Cream

The cream looks just like your typical cream. It’s white and creamy.  Just like the wash, it smells like baby powder, too. The baby powder fragrance lingers though, because obviously, you don’t have to wash the cream right after application.

I've been using this kit for a while now, especially the wash because I decided I would not use my bath soap on my underarms anymore. Just like how I decided to stop using bath soap on my face, because cleansers are much much better to use. I figured that the skin on my armpits reacted really well to the A-kit solution. It’s somewhat embarrassing to elaborate the details here, but I could really attest that after regular use (daily, sometimes, twice a day), I realized that my armpits have:

                *lesser bumps
                *smaller pores
                *lighter complexion

As for the cream, it’s pretty good too, but I’m too lazy to put it on after washing. I sometimes use it instead of my beloved anti-perspirant, but somehow, it feels kind of wrong to do so. You guessed it right: me and my irrational senses, sometimes get in the way. After all, it wasn't marketed as an antiperspirant, so there’s no reason for me to stick to it during daytime. Also, I heard that the cream could cause some stains on your clothing, so better think twice before using it. I never had any personal experience with the cream staining my clothes, but it’s possible. In most cases, I use the cream on nighttime, when I’m about to sleep; it’s more comfortable that way.

My Verdict

I love it and it’s a 4.50 out of 5.00. I didn't give it a perfect rating because it lacked English texts, but I’ll continue using it. As a matter of fact, I already bought two kits so that I won’t have to worry running out of this thing in the near future.

So, I guess that’s all for now. I hope you learned something from this post.

Happy holidays to everyone!

Love lots,

NEWBEE
