Today's review will be about a toner. In fact, this review means a lot to me because this is the very first toner I actually tried. Before that, I never ventured into skincare and cosmetics, and my idea of makeup by then was a lip balm.

Year 2010, and I became fascinated into trying BB creams. It was a hype then and I never knew which brand to try first. The internet led me to Skin79, which is according to most reviewers at the time, has the best line of BB CREAMS. True enough, the BB cream worked like magic, and I had it since then. Eventually, I began to embrace the famed Korean skincare routine as well.

At first, I didn't risk trying out other Korean brands, because I was in love with Skin79. I bought the moisturizer, the mask, the eye cream, and even the toner. It wasn't easy at all, because I had to spend a fortune on my Skin79 skincare routine. A moisturizer costs around Php 700, while the toner is a Php 100 cheaper - probably too much for my student allowance and pay from my part-time jobs.

But, you know what? I could say it was worth it.

I had horrible skin before my biggest experiment. My face was prone to acne, and it's so sensitive that scars left by acne and pimples were so evident on my face. Plus, my skin looked flaky. I don't know what else to say, but my skin's condition then was so terrible.

I could probably attribute the transformation to Skin79, but despite everything, I think I'm ready to part from my favorite toner - the Skin79 Green Tea Mist Toner.

I know that this toner made my skin smoother and acne-free in the past years. It did what it promised:
  • Prevented acne and pimples
  • Gentle
  • Has a cooling effect
  • Made skin smoother and silkier
Its scent is pleasant, too, and it absorbs easily. It's not sticky either.

Plus, it's not a hassle to use at all. Just spray it on your face, and you could proceed to the next skincare step. I never even had problems with the nozzle, everything worked like magic.

But truth be told, I can't afford a toner as expensive as this anymore. A 60ml bottle could last you two months of regular use at most, and each bottle costs roughly Php600 here in the Philippines.

Imagine how many bottles I've emptied (and how much cash spent) just to maintain my skin. This is probably the 5th. But then, like they always say, if there's a beginning there is an end. Tragic as it sounds, but I think this is where my relationship ends with my beloved  Skin79 Green Tea Mist Toner:

You know, I love you still, but time has finally come when we have to part ways.

Review: Skin79 Green Tea Mist Toner ( 60ml )

Monday, November 3, 2014

When I unboxed this product from Memebox Special #27 Diet Box sometime in September, I really didn't know what to expect from this soap. For one, the brand Ferderma doesn't sound familiar at all and its graphics are predominantly 'Egyptian'. If it wasn't for Memebox and for the Korean texts at the bottom of the box, I would have guessed that this product could have originated from the Middle East.

Thankfully, Ferderma has websites in both Korean and English. If you'd check the former, you'd notice the Egyptian Diet Soap in the Featured Products section right away. It's on sale for KRW 14,000 ($13.50)  from the original price of KRW 15,000 ($14.50). This is a far shot from the $18 pricetag Memebox indicated in its Memebox Special #27 Diet Box curator card. Talk about bloated retail prices for Korean stuff such as this.

Bad Memebox!

It's a very pretty box!
Anyway, I tried this soap for a little more than a couple of weeks, and obviously, I used every bit of it! You know, $13 on a soap alone sounds too much for me. I can't waste it! I hope you get the idea.

So, here's my review on the Ferderma Egyptian Diet Soap in 100g:

Packaging

I won't deny it. This is probably the prettiest soap box I've ever seen in my entire life. You get to open several flaps of cardboard before you could finally get your hands on the soap itself. The pretty graphics and the numerous cardboard flaps surely give you a unique experience on unboxing the soap. I love it!

The only issue I have with the packaging is the absence of English descriptions/ ingredients and expiry dates. How I wish they indicated those crucial information.

But, I see another redeeming factor. The box shows the FDA logo, which probably means that it was approved by the Food and Drug Authority.

First Impressions

Considering that the soap costs around $13, I've been hoping for it to be bigger than most soaps in the market, but sad to say, it's rather small for its price. It's pretty though, because it looks kind of unique: it is green and translucent, and it was wrapped in clear plastic.

When I first used this in the shower, boy, was it difficult to hold on to! It kept on slipping from my hands, and I literally had to grab it once again to be able to use it properly. I must say, this scenario went on for days, until the soap significantly decreased in size.

Maybe the soap was too big for my hands, or probably my hands were simply too small for it. Or maybe, it would have worked really well if it was just a simple bar of soap.

At first, I really thought this small piece of soap could barely make it through the week. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized I was using this for a little more than two weeks, straight! Now, that's something.

I believe this lasted me for a couple of weeks because it's loaded with soap hardeners. After all, it takes some time for the soap to produce a decent amount of lather. It was a hassle at first, but I eventually got used to it.

If you think that this soap may not be minty enough, I guess you're wrong. I thought of the same thing as well, but I ended up shivering in the shower, because well, it's really minty! You'll have to massage it on your skin for a while and leave it on from 5 to 10 minutes.

It's smells great, too! Minty.. Minty.. Minty! Perfect for your daily aromatherapy. I guess, they weren't lying when they said it's perfect for aromatherapy and stress relief!

Effectiveness

Once again, let me quote on something that Memebox used to describe the Ferderma Egyptian Diet Soap:

The spicy menthol, sweet fennel, horseradish, dandelion extracts, grapefruit, cinnamon oil, lemon oil, and rosemary oil work to alleviate knotted muscles, improve the flexibility and balance of the body, and provide aroma therapeutic effects for relieving stress level as well. Plus, it’s free of paraben, artificial fragrance, and artificial coloring; Ferderma strives to provide only nature-friendly and skin-beneficial beauty regime.
I wouldn't argue on the 'aroma therapeutic effects' part, because for me, Ferderma definitely nailed it! It smells great, and feels great on the skin!

However, would it make sense if I'd say that I'm not entirely sold on the entire Ferderma 'nature-friendly' campaign? I mean, I'm not an expert or anything, but don't you think hardeners are predominantly artificial in composition?

Sorry to burst your bubble as well, but it appears that this product is not effective as a slimming soap. It didn't do anything for my cellulites at all, despite using it straight for more than two weeks. No visible changes.

I guess they were honest when they mentioned that the Ferderma Egyptian Diet Soap is mainly for 'Psychological Diet', if there was indeed such a thing.

Rating:

Packaging - 4.50 out of 5.00
Soap Composition - 3.00 out of 5.00
Effectiveness - 2.00 out of 5.00

Overall - 3.00 out of 5.00

Pros:
  • Very pretty packaging
  • Therapeutic scent in mint
  • Feels great on skin (minty)
  • Lasts for a couple of weeks or more
  • Feels refreshing
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Circular shape (not good for small hands)
  • Loaded with hardeners (?)
  • Absence of English descriptions/list of ingredients
  • No manufacturing date and/or expiry date
  • Takes time to lather
  • Not effective on cellulite
  • Not available locally

Repurchase?

This soap definitely gave me an extraordinary experience, which I really, really enjoyed! However, this soap came with a huge pricetag, and it doesn't work to well on my cellulite. So, I'm pretty sure I won't repurchase it.

Well, that's all for today's review!

Have you ever used the Ferderma Egyptian Diet Soap 100g before? What do you think?

See you!

Review: Ferderma Egyptian Diet Soap 100g

Thursday, October 30, 2014

First of all, my sincerest apologies for posting a series of unboxing posts in the previous weeks. I know this not entirely an unboxing blog, but my Memeboxes came after another. I'm afraid that this would continue on for months, as I am expecting lots and lots of boxes in the near future. I just hope you enjoy unboxing posts as much as I do.

Rest assured though, that I will definitely post my reviews on the products included in the unboxings.

Anyway, I don't have an unboxing post for today. As the title implies, this is a review post.

Uh oh.. I swear I could almost hear you say, "Thank God! No unboxing post for today!"

Just kidding.

The product that I'll talk about in the blog is from The Cream Factory.

Everyone, meet The Cream Factory Scrub-in-a-Tub in Goat's Milk and Cinnamon.

I'm pretty much aware that this is not a newly released product at all. I guess this has been on the display racks since last year (?) I'm not really sure though.

However, I only got the chance to try it, when it was offered for sale at Watsons and SM Beauty Section. I believe I availed the 10% off promo, by which the Php600+ price tag was reduced to Php500+. I hope you don't mind; my memory's not good when it comes to numbers, but I do hope you get the idea.

Based on my experience, the best body scrubs are priced at Php 500 and above. I'd say that by 'best', I expect the scrub to:
  • Exfoliate well
  • Be gentle on the skin
  • Smell great (not artificial)
  • Wash off easily
  • Moisturize and smoothen skin
Since I'm on a tight budget, I usually go for the Php 500 - Php 600 body scrubs, and since the sale pulled this to my budget range, I thought, why not?

If I remember correctly, The Cream Factory scrubs come in three different categories: (1) Yummy, (2) Creamy and (3) Salty. I apparently, I got Cinnamon which falls in the yummy category.

And since this is in the 'Yummy' category, this should make every shower an extra pleasurable experience, right? I sure hope it does.

Packaging

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of the 'tub-type' packaging. I mean, I don't really want to soil my scrub with my hands every time I shower, so really, I would have preferred the tube type.

So, before I take a bath, I usually scoop a decent amount of the product to another tub to save me from soiling my 'new tub'. This is a hassle really. So, I guess this is a major concern. As for the rest, I love everything!

Manufacturing date, expiry date, and batch codes are all printed on the tub, and the instructions and list of ingredients are very much well presented. Plus, the stickers on the tub seem to be waterproof! I bet they won't get ugly in the shower!

Most of all, I love how they made an extra effort to inform users about their other products. See that cute piece of paper at the bottom of this post? It came with the tub, and it mentions how The Cream Factory came about.

Did I mention that the paper smells like heaven, when I first took it out? It's really heavenly...

Formulation

Scrubs are supposed to exfoliate so I'm expecting this body scrub to have tiny abrasive materials in it. Honestly, I hate scrubs that are too creamy - so creamy that you could barely feel the abrasive materials in it. They shouldn't have named it a scrub then, but rather, a body wash.

Anyway, I'm glad that this product really exfoliates. It's somewhat creamy, but it contains small abrasive materials, that really help in exfoliating. It's not sticky or tacky, too, even during shower.

Most of all, it smells heavenly! I love it because it's so good that indeed, it's an extra luxury to your 'me' time.

All in all, I think the formulation is just about perfect.

Effectiveness

Every time I use this scrub, I feel like a princess, who deserves the pleasant experience. It smells great; it works well on the skin; and it makes my skin even more beautiful!

All in all, it's great!

Overall

The Cream Factory Scrub-in-a-Tub in Goat's Milk and Cinnamon is a great product.

However, I saw a major concern on this product. I've been using this for 1-2 times a week for the past two months. I opened my tub this morning, and boy, was I upset! The scrub that I've loved for a while, smelt like rotten eggs sprinkled with old cinnamon. It smelt stale!

So, I had to throw it away,

It really gave me a great experience, but I guess Php 600 was a bit too much for this product - considering that it could only last you for a couple of months.

Rating

Packaging - 3.00 out of 5.00
Formulation  - 4.00 out of 5.00
Effectiveness - 5.00 out of 5.00

Overall - 4.00 out of 5.00

Pros:
    *smells great
    *doesn't dry out the skin
    * scrubs well
    * pleasant scent lingers for a while
    * leaves a fresh feeling
    *available locally
    * gentle on skin

Cons:
     *Pricey at Php 600+
*Smelt stale after a couple of months

Repurchase?

No. I don't want to waste my money on something that goes bad after a couple of months. Unless of course the price goes down to the Php 300 range. Now, that would be totally worth it!

What do you think?

Love,

Newbee

Review: The Cream Factory Scrub-in-a-Tub in Goat's Milk and Cinnamon

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

To be honest, I almost forgot about my BDJ Subscription. Maybe I was too preoccupied with my Memeboxes. Or probably, a month's worth of waiting time is simply too much for me to think about on a regular basis.

Nonetheless, I was pleasantly surprised when I got my BDJBox for October 2014 earlier today.

Judging by the boxes I received, BDJ must have decided on becoming extra generous for this month. Not only did I receive a big BDJBox, I got an extra box as well!

And, it says: SKIN SAVERS!

Way to go, BDJBox!

Here are the snapshots of the contents I received from two boxes:

Well, see for yourself if the products are really worth the wait!

I have arranged the products according to my preferences:

Dial Cleansing Pair

Dial Coconut Water Body Wash (437ml)
The first of its kind to contain coconut water, this hydrating body wash gives you youthful skin every time you shower.
First off, this body wash is HUGE! It's almost half a liter!

And, it smells really heavenly. Truth be told, I sense a hint of coconut, which I'm not really a fan of, but I love how Dial incorporated the coco scent into the body wash. Smells sooo heavenly. I love it!

Can't wait to use it real soon!

The Dial Coconut Water Body Wash in 437ml retails at Php 200.
Dial Coconut Water Soap (113g)

This bar is infused with moisture from coconut water and bamboo leaf extract, to hydrate your skin naturally.
I preferred the body wash over the soap, simply because I favor body washes over hard soaps nowadays. Nonetheless, this soap smells just like the body wash, which I really, really love at first whiff. I can't wait to use this real soon as well!

According to the BDJ curator card, a trio of this costs Php 140. Therefore, a Dial Coconut Water Soap in 113g must be around Php 50.

My Choice Smooth Skin Pack
My Choice Spa Salt (500g) - Mango

Maintain your skin's youthful glow with this salt scrub that's packed with antioxidants and vitamins.
Now, this is one brand that I haven't heard before. Mychoice reminds me of Echoice, which is a cheap Korean cosmetics brand. The former, apparently, was made in Thailand, so there's no obvious association with the latter.

Funny how both Mychoice and Echoice remind me of Iphone and Myphone.

Obviously, I got the Mychoice Mango variant, which claims to help in improving the skin's condition caused by sun damage. I find the claim difficult to believe though, but I'm really happy that BDJ finally sent us a salt scrub. Now, I have something else to use other than The Body Shop scrubs I hauled last month.

This My Choice Spa Salt in 500g, despite its size, is being sold for cheap! It's Php 100 each!

Now, there's a common denominator between Mychoice and Echoice, and that is: PRICE!

My Choice Hand and Body Lotion (90ml)

This creamy lotion is concocted with natural ingredients, as well as collagen to nourish and protect your skin from harmful free radicals.
It's another Mychoice product! This time, it's a hand and body lotion in the Mango variant.

Its short descriptions mention sun protection, which I believe is pretty similar with the salt scrub claims.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to use it soon, but I'm glad I got another lotion as backup.

The My Choice Hand and Body Lotion in 90ml retails for Php 70 each.

You think I'm already done talking about Mychoice products? Think again!

Mychoice added two more sachets (in sample sizes, of course) to my BDJBox. One is a salt scrub in Mango variant, while the other is a body lotion in Carrot variant.

These are definitely travel-friendly so I'm keeping them in my travel bag just in case!

Dove Hair Fall Rescue (7ml x 7 vials)

As the first hair care system that treats hair loss from the roots, Dove Hair Fall Rescue has infused Trichazole, soy protein and ginseng into their hair tonic, to reduce damage at the roots and lock your hair firmly in place, effectively lessening hair fall due at the source in just two weeks. Their formula feeds vital nutrients deep inside your hair, defending it from external stress and breakage.
I admit I considered purchasing this set from Watsons before, but I figured, the price tag was too much for me. Good thing BDJ Box gave me a chance to try it out! After all, I loved those Dove Hair Vitamins BDJBox sent out last month.

I wonder if this is any better?

And I do have a question just out of curiosity, just how exactly a hair fall formula fits in to a SKIN SAVERS box?

I wonder...

Dove Hair Fall Rescue set retails for Php 470.

Strip RPT Kit

Strip Ice Cream (sample)RELIEVE - This soothing, calming whip delight calms your inflamed skin - perfect as post-hair removal treatment.
I know I need this, because I wax on a regular basis. How I wish I could get a full-sized version of this!
Malin + Goetz Peppermint Body Scrub (sample)PREVENT - With bamboo and pumice to help shed dead skin, this cooling and creamy scrub will prevent ingrown hair.
I'm not too keen on using peppermint body scrubs at the moment. I have far too many scrubs now, and this sachet makes it to the most disinteresting body scrub stash.

Malin + Goetz Ingrown Hair Cream (sample) TREAT - It contains papaya and pineapple enzyme to eliminate ingrown hair, as well as vitamins B5 and E to repair your skin.
I need this so badly! I've got to try this, and if it works, I won't think twice on expend my hard-earned cash on this.

Yves Rocher Zero Blemish Gel Cream (samples)

This will be your secret to flawless and smooth skin! Formulated with Baikal Powder which is recognized for its re-balancing virtues, it absorbs excess sebum and minimizes pores. It also hydrates for a full 24 hours, so you don't need to worry about over-drying your skin. Dab the fresh gel cream on your t-zone for all day protection against blemish and shine.
Breakouts are definitely a big 'no-no' for me, but sadly, I frequently suffer from them. So, these sachets would really come in handy - I hope.

Revlon Colorstay 16-hour Eye Shadow Quad (1.09 oz) - 575 Delightful Charmant

Rich, velvety shadows blend smoothly so you can easily contour and highlight your eyes. Beautiful color wears for up to 16 hours, won't crease, fade or smudge, so it will always look freshly applied. It comes in a palette of expertly color-coordinated shades that you can mix and match for your most gorgeous peepers yet.
I had high hopes for this quad, but I must say, this is just horrible. I admit that the colors look pretty interesting on the palette. They stand out - they sure do.

But, when I swatched them, the shades were literally close to nothing at all. As if there was no pigmentation. The white one is white though, and the darkest has a little shade to it.

But the rest? You better forget about them. The rest of the colors are really close to nothing at all.

This quad is disappointing. I really couldn't find a redeeming factor to it. This turns out even more disappointing, especially that the name itself promises a 16-hour staying power for the shadows. It doesn't even show color, so why promise a 16-hour staying power?

And, they're chalky, too.

And, the applicator broke right after a couple of swipes.

Cheaper brands seem to work better than this quad.

Revlon, you used to be a favorite of mine. How in the world were you able to release a product as horrible as this?

According to the curator card the Revlon Colorstay 16-hour Eye Shadow Quad retails for Php 795.

L'Oreal Paris Youth Duo

L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser x3 Serum (sample)
Enriched with ceramide pro to stimulate the skin's renewal process, this serum reduces fine lines and refines skin texture in just 4 weeks.
L'Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser x3 Anti-Aging Day Cream (sample)
This day cream has LHA to smoothen pores and 3% concentrated pro-xylane for replumped skin. Apply over the serum for better results.
A few months back, I bought a full-sized Loreal Revitalift V-Shaper Essence in full price - Php 995 (I think).

I really thought, it would be fun to try. But despite the high pricetag, it didn't work for me. I mean, there were no visible changes on my facial skin, and my cheaper skin care products seem to work better than the L'Oreal Revitalift Essence. So, I eventually quit.

I figured that I should lower my expectations on this product when it comes to skincare. However, this doesn't mean that I won't try these two samples at all. Still, I will, but like I said, I already managed my expectations.

These tubes are very tiny, by the way. So, they go right into my travel bag.

Overall

I love everything in this box, except for the Revlon Quad. Nonetheless, I could feel that I got my money's worth with BDJBox.

BDJBox, thank you!

Love lots,

Newbee

Unboxing Post: BDJBox October 2014 - Skin Savers

Saturday, October 25, 2014

Hair plays a big part in your overall appearance. Hence, bad hair days aren't an option at all. But, BAD HAIR DAYS DO HAPPEN, which is probably why Memebox released the Memebox Princess Edition #3 Rapunzel to address hair issues:
Rapunzel has got the best hair in fairy tale history, and so we've created this box to share the secrets to her healthy, glowing locks! Arm yourself with this Rapunzel box, and you'll have all the pro tools for glossier, bouncier hair, a healthier scalp, and a more manageable mane!
Do hair the Rapunzel way, and bad hair days will cease to be an issue.
Based on the description, this box sounds amazing, and I expect it to contain cute hair stuff or possibly luxurious-looking products. I mean, why would Memebox bother to name it 'Princess Edition' if the products inside are not fit for a Princess? The very least they could do is make it look cute or lavish.

Also, I expect this box to contain at least, a shampoo, a conditioner, a mask, and possibly a hair treatment. I know it might sound crazy, too, but they might include both permanent and temporary hair coloring stuff.

Are you wondering what could be inside the box?

Take a look at all that!

Let's see if Memebox managed to exceed my expectations. Let's take a look at them one by one, shall we?

Products are arranged according to my preferences.

ProYou Scalp Nutrition Calming Moisture Fluid 150ml ($48)

The various soothing agents - hyaluronic acid, chamomile, pomegranate, allantoin, rosemary, centella asiatica, etc - infused in the Scalp Nutrition Calming Moisture Fluid work not only to soothe and nourish but also to alleviate the scalp of possible itching and dandruff.
Have you ever tried several anti-dandruff shampoos, but none of them seem to work against dandruff and itching?

I have, and I know that products like this matters - something that would not replace your favorite shampoo but works really great against itching and dandruff. Obviously, I assumed this would work well on my scalp.

I do have high hopes for this one.

Tosowoong 10 Hours 25ml ($12)

There is absolutely no need for an expensive protein care at a hair salon with Tosowoong's essential 10 hours protein ampoule. All you need is a minute to squeeze out the ampoule and apply it throughout your hair. No rinsing needed at all! Then, the rich protein nutrients from the ampoule will gradually and continuously absorb deep down into your hair and scalp within the next 10 hours, for a visibly healthier-looking shine and silkiness.
Honestly, I have no idea what protein care is or how it's done at a hair salon, but since it promises to significantly improve the hair and scalp, I'm in! It's a plus that it doesn't need rinsing at all!

I just hope that it doesn't smell nasty. Otherwise, I won't get to use it!

Elizavecca Collagen Ceramide Coating Protein Treatment 100ml ($34)

Packed with nutritious collagen, bean protein extracts, ceramide complex, allantoin, hydro-wheat protein, and various vegetable extracts, this collagen Ceramide Coating Protein Treatment is a hair pack that literally coats over dry, damaged hair ends with nourishment, thus delivering a lasting moisture level and a healthy glow to your hair.
That's an adorable little piggy!

Sorry, I tend to overreact when it comes to cute stuff.

This product is not only cute, it mentions collagen, too! Now, I can't miss this, I love everything collagen. This is probably similar to Tosowoong's Protein Treatment. The only downside is, rinsing is a must after 5 minutes to 20 minutes of use.

Boutique Bebe Hair Salon Vita-Clinic Mist 60ml ($24)

Boutique Bebe's Hair Salon Vita-Clinic Mist carries rich concentrates of argania spinosa kernel oil, lavender extracts, peppermint extracts, chamomile extracts, rosemary extracts, and royal jelly extracts. Its nutritious formula provides an intense moisture and protein recharge to dry, damaged hair cuticles and protect your hair from any further damage.
Okay, so this product is something I could use as well! It's a hairspray, so I don't see any hassle on this. The thing is, I've seen similar products from local drugstore brands.

I wonder if it's any different?

L'CRET Hair Color Keeper Treatment Shampoo 300ml ($42)

The Hair Color Keeper Treatment Shampoo is carefully formulated with naturally derived ingredients like sunflower seed oil, argan oil, and babassu seed oil and works not only to moisturize and nourish dry hair but also protect hair from the UV and from de-coloring. Plus, it is scented with a lovely citrus and green tea aroma.
How many shampoos promised protection from UV rays?

For me, this is a first. I'll definitely give this a try real soon!

Thank you Memebox!

Sally's Box Friendly Argan Hair Mask 18g + 5ml ($4)

Rich in Vitamin E, argan oil is your hair's best friend.  Bring back shine to your hair with this hair mask infused with tocopherol and argan oil to nourish damaged, dry hair with essential vitamins.
Lastly, here's a one-time use hair mask. It contains argan oil, which is supposed to be a good ingredient for your hair.

It looks like a great product to use and it's so cute! It's a one-time mask so I must choose when is the best time to put this to use. If you also have this, use it wisely!

Overall

Despite the appearances of these products (some do not look cute or fancy at all), I'm really happy I got this box. I must say, this is waaaay better than the Memebox Princess Edition #2: Sleeping Beauty. This is not a boring box at all!

Memebox Princess Edition #2: Sleeping Beauty contains two aloe products - probably the reason why my impressions on the box  as a whole plunged.

BUT THIS!

Judging by the products that this box came with, I'm pretty sure Rapunzel would be really happy to have this as well.

Thank you Memebox!
