I know it's been a while since I last posted - May 2015, maybe?

This post about the June 2015 BDJBox is a little late, but I do hope you won't mind.

After months of consecutive 'large' BDJBoxes, the 'smaller' box finally steals the spotlight this month. No worries, because it's packed of goodies that you won't find at a cheaper price anywhere else.

So, here, we got some samples from Bioderma, and a Lip and Cheek Stain in full size from The Body Shop.

I'll give you a brief information about Bioderma, in case this is the first time you've heard about the brand.

Bioderma is 'biology at the service of dermatology'. And as its tagline implies, Bioderma aims to imitate its [the skin's] natural biological mechanisms through their components and their modes of action

If you made a quick search on Bioderma, you'll soon realize that this is no 'chipipay' brand. It's in the Php 1500 and above price range!

Anyway, let's move on and take a good look at each product included in the box.

The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain (8ml FULL SIZE) - Php 795

This dual-purpose stain from The Body Shop gives your lips and cheeks a healthy-looking glow with one was of color, or builds up for a richer, deeper coverage. Used alone, it’s a sheer strain, but can also be used as a great base for lip and even cheek products for a longer-lasting flush. Its moisturizing formulation helps to condition the skin with Vitamin E.
I initially thought that this is a BIODerma Exclusive box, until I saw this TBS product included. Also, it's the only product that is not in sample size - at least.

Ever since I heard about The Body Shop, I've always considered using any product from their makeup line. Sad to say, though, I don't earn much to be able to splurge on a single lip/cheek tint above the Php 500 mark.

I'm glad that BDJ Box gave me a chance to own one, despite the huge pricetag most TBS products come with. At regular price, this 8ml lip/cheek tint costs Php 795 a pop! And, it's in full size. Mine came in shade #1: Rose Pink.

For now, I couldn't really tell how it would look on my skin, but I'm not opening this one yet.

Sensibio H20 (10ml sample)

Gently cleanse your skin with this ultra-mild, non-rinse micellar water cleanser and make-up remover. Create to suit the needs of those who experience skin irritation and redness, the alcohol-free formula soothes and cools as it cleanses. The cleanser removes impurities using micelles, which micro-emulsify impurities while maintaining the skin’s balance. Soak a cotton pad with the solution, and cleanse the face and eyes.
When it comes to skincare, cleansing is probably the most important step. Skip everything else, just don't skip the cleansing part.

I have to be honest, one look at these Bioderma products and I personally find them quite unappealing. It's not just about the packaging; maybe it's because of the sizes of these things. Or the derma jargon that is in the description.

Too technical, maybe? Read the rest of the product descriptions and tell me what you think.

But, I think everything included in this box are all good stuff - and like I said, the only downside is its lack of charm...

Or, maybe, it's just me...

Sensibio Light (5ml sample)

This silky everyday moisturizer protects the complexion from eternal aggravators, and works to build the skin’s own tolerance over time with the patented Toleridine complex. Formulated with rigorously selective active ingredients, it is an ideal step in the treatment of sensitive skin.Over time tightness and overheating of the skin is reduced thanks to the restoration of the cutaneous barrier. In its place is a supple, comfortable and less inflamed complexion.
I absolutely love moisturizers, and I have a feeling that I might actually like this one.

It's formulated for the treatment of sensitive skin. I don't have sensitive skin. Mine is basically normal/combination, but nobody said I couldn't use it!

Photoderm Max (5ml sample)

With maximum anti-UV B and extreme anti-UV A performance, it guarantees optimum protection against sunburn, sun intolerance and premature ageing. Exclusive patented Cellular BIOprotection complex effectively shields the skin against risks of cell damage. The melting texture feels very comfortable on the complexion and is perfectly colourless when applied, leaving no trace of white marks or a greasy film.

Among the Bioderma bunch, this product is probably the most intriguing - at least for me.

Look, SPF 100, ladies!

I couldn't remember using anything more than SPF50.

They say, the higher the SPF, the heavier the product becomes when applied on the skin. I hope it doesn't work that way for this product.

Atoderm Preventive (8ml sample)

Limit the aggravation of very dry skin from birth with a delicate formula created for infants and children. It has been developed to intensively restore the integrity of the skin barrier by strengthening and protecting young skin, ensuring that the evolution from dryness to atopic dermatitis in childhood is prevented. With its quick application and ultra-comfortable texture, skin is soothed swiftly and durably.
This is the very first time I heard of "congenital dry skin".  Of course, I made the term up.

Who knew that dry skin is a problem since birth! I really had no idea!

And this product, is possibly the first of its kind to treat dry skin for babies.

Sebium Pore Refiner (5ml sample)

This targeted daily treatment works to tighten pores that are dilated, prevent imprefections, and mattify the skin both immediately and over the long term, thanks to the astringent and pore minimizer property of Fomes Officinalis (mushroom extract). Antioxidants boost the skin’s radiance and protect it from external aggressors. The lightweight, fluid formula melts into skin instantly, and creates and excellent base for make-up application.
This thing kind of reminds me of Benefit's Porefessional Primer and Skinfood's Egg Pore Primer.

However, unlike the first two I mentioned, the Sebium Pore Refiner promises to work long-term on the skin.

Interesting, right?

Sebium AKN (5ml sample)

This non-comedogenic treatment cleanses the pores in depth while slowing the overproduction of sebum. It also smooths the skin’s texture over time, ensuring that it looks clear and more uniform. Soothing ingredients reduce irritation and diminish the appearance of redness, and hydrating agents to make sure the skin is comfortable and soft. The light texture is rapidly absorbed and makes a great make-up base.
Here's another make-up base, which claims the following:

  • Slow sebum overproduction
  • Smooths skin
  • Soothe irritation
  • Diminish redness
  • Hydrates skin
I personally don't have major problems with my pores, but in some occasions, dry skin is a problem. Come to think of it, I sometimes have problems with sebum - thanks to hormonal imbalance.

Sensibio DS+ (5ml sample)

This is an intensely calming moisturizer with a lightweight texture. Designed for those who have sebhorrhoeic dermatitis, its soothing formula works to relieve high color and smooth the skin using a dual anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory action. It uses a targeted action to boost the skin’s healing process, while the patented natural DAF complex improves the skin’s tolerance threshold,. Its pleasant, non-oily gel-cream texture provides in instant comfort.

Atoderm Intensive (8ml sample)

When skin is atopic and dry, it can be extremely irritable, itchy and uncomfortable. The Intensive Soothing Emollient Care is created with Bioderma’s exclusive Skin Barrier Therapy complex, which restores the integrity of the skin barrier, prevents the penetration of allergens and enhances suppleness and comfort. Added Zinc and Betasitosterol provide intense anti-inflammatory care, and helps to stop the itch.
These last two products are for people whose skin are waaaay more sensitive than the rest of the population. It's amazing how Bioderma addresses these problems head on!

I don't have major problems with my skin, but I do hope these things could help those who have been suffering skin problems for so long.

OVERALL

This box, in my opinion, is an 'okay' box. To be brutally honest, I didn't really find this box exciting, nor interesting. Like I mentioned, I think the items inside lacked the 'charm' to make us all giddy during unboxings.

But I do commend BDJBox for including these high-end products in this box. To include samples from Bioderma, for one, may be a feat on its own; such products may be very difficult to obtain for the price that we paid for.

We only paid Php 580, but we received much, much more than we deserve!

Thanks BDJBox!

How about you? Are these products worth it?

Love,

Marie

Unboxing Post: BDJBox June 2015 - Bioderma Exclusive Box

Thursday, April 30, 2015

Since January 2014, the Belle de Jour team, aka BDJ Team, has been making each month extra special for me.

The moment a box reaches my doorstep, I'm always filled with excitement! I feel like I have a 'birthday present every month!

And here's my 'birthday present' for this month:

I got this two weeks ago - so sorry for this very late post. To tell you the truth, I was extremely busy with my summer adventures. I hope you've had your share of fun and excitement as well!

So moving on...

The BDJ Box April 2015 is the Spring into Beauty box!

Soooo full of goodies!

Let's take a look, one by one!

Revlon Highlighting Palette, 7.5g - Php 625

Simplify your look this month with something light and fresh! The highlighting palette gives you an all-over sunkissed glow for day to night. It has complimentary shimmer shades which are easy to blend and enhance the complexion for a radiant sun-kissed look. It works well as highlighter, eyeshdow and blush giving you a multi-dimensional sculpted look all rolled in to a single useful palette.
A few days back, I considered purchasing a highlighter. I learned from Youtube, that highlighter could give you that instant 'glow'. It's like the BDJ team knows what I really need, so they included this!

So happy!

Sorry, I'm still learning the ropes on makeup application. But you know, it's never too late to learn!

Hence, this is so timely! And it's from Revlon!

I swatched these a few times, and I could tell, these work well as highlighter and bronzer. I'm not so sure if they're good enough as eyeshadow or blush, because the colors are on a 'lighter' shade. In fact, I have decided on not posting the swatch photos because they barely show on the photos! But, I bet they work great as highlighters - especially for those with fair skin.

MyChoice Pure Herbal Soap, 100g - Php 55

If you need your soap to be a natural cleanser, exfoliator or moisturizer, there is bound to be a MyChoice Pure Herbal soap for you. Comes in 6 variants that all have special properties suited for different skin needs. Contains natural ingredients that will help your skin in repairing damage, solving wrinkles and acne, moisturizing from deep within, refreshing naturally, protecting against damage and a whole lot more. Use all over the body day and night for better results.
When I unboxed this box, I can't seem to get over this pretty soap.

As you could see, it's like a solidified version of fruit juice with some sort of nata de coco or gulaman in it. Isn't it adorable?

I got the aloe variant, which is great for sensitive skin.

Would really love to try this one out real soon!

Asian Secrets Lulur Whitening Facial Scrub, 100g - Php 120

This Javanese Princesses inspired scrub delicately removes your dead skin cells, leaving your skin supple and smooth. The luur beads gently exfoliates and removes dead skin cells and black heads to smoothen and give skin a fairer, whiter and radiant glow.
You know how much I love facial scrubs!

Facial scrubs are excellent in keeping your pores clean, and I bet this one will do the job well!

I remember a few years back when Asian Secrets was still a fresh brand; I used to use its body scrub variant as a facial scrub.

Hehe... my peers did the same thing as well, because we love how it worked on our facial skin.

It's great that Lulur came out with a facial scrub variant. I'm hoping that this would work better than the 'body scrub'.

Asian Secrets Lulur Whitening Body Scrub

Feel refreshed and revitalized this summer! Include on your shower ritual for a more relaxing and prettifying bath time. Gently exfoliate two to three times a week to wash away dead skin cells and reveal a fairer skin.
Ahh... here's an old favorite - the Asian Secrets Lulur Body Scrub!

It's affordable, and you bet it has everything you'll have to look for in a body scrub - a facial scrub even!

So glad to get my hands on these convenient body scrub sachets!

MyChoice Bubble Shower Salt 2-in-1, 225g - Php 100

Pamper your skin with the newly improved 2-in-1 bath salt with soap that is made from natural ingredients which is perfect fro all skin types. It comes with five variants leaving you options fitted for your skin needs. May it be moisturizing, rejuvenating, lightening, anti-aging and refreshing need that you are wanting to solve, make it easy solved with MyChoice Bubble Scrub Shower Salt 2-in-1. Use this as everyday soap when having your bath and have that overall skin glowing you always wanted.
I don't really know much about the brand, MyChoice, but I got a few items from them in my BDJ Box October 2014 - Skin Savers. I was able to try the Mango scrub. It retails at Php 100 each (sooo cheap!), but to my surprise, it gave me a very pleasant experience! It felt so good on my skin, and it smells so heavenly! It smells like mangoes, indeed!

As for this Bubble Shower Salt, I think I should give it a try. My first experience with MyChoice was excellent, so obviously, I really have high hopes for this one.

Tonymoly Intense Care Snail Foot Mask, 18ml - Php 198

Give your feet some TLC and get the confidence to show them off with the Intense Care Snail Foot Mask. It is a special foot mask to supply full of moisture and nutrition to dry skin. It contains snail slime extract which is known for stimulating collagen formation and moisturizing properties. Its unique formula speeds up the skin renewal process allowing the outer skin to mature and peel away painlessly, giving way to new skin. You can keep fresh feeling with it for a long time without stickiness with moist and refresh use.
I'm no beginner when it comes to foot care items - especially if they're made in Korea. Based on my experience, most foot care items work really well, but they are usually priced at Php 150 and above - which is not cheap. I appreciate BDJ for including this, but I don't think I'll be using this.

I might sound funny, but I think I like my feet just the way they are. Sure, they have a couple of callouses, but they're fine.

And, I've had my share of foot care items already.

But, as I'm writing this, my mom is enjoying this foot mask from Tonymoly. She loves it!!!

MyChoice Anti-Acne Cream 20g - Php 100

Formulated with multi-functional anti-acne ingredients that strengthens its ability to help you be acne-free. It also contains AHA and BHA that desquamate acnes gentle without causing skin irritation. Daily use allows complete healing but visible result can be seen in just 3 days after application. Heads up, face the world showing off your beautiful flawless face.
Another MyChoice item, and I'm not sure yet if it's something that I'd like to try.

If I would, I might just use this as a spot treatment and not as a full facial cream. But I appreciate BDJ for including this.

FS Cosmetics Lash Extravagance Mascara, 9g - Php 350

Get big, bold and flirty lashes this summer by sweeping on Lash Extravagance Mascara. The tiny bristles make application easy for both top and bottom part and gives you beautiful lashes to bat. Apply one coat to achieve a defined look. Show luscious. curled and dramatic eyes by applying two coats. Apply a third coat to give intense yet extravagant lashes. It's perfect for a day to night affair!
Truth be told, I hate drugstore mascaras. So, this goes to somebody who might appreciate this even more than I do.

MyChoice Perfume Spray, 22ml - Php 60

Crush on this new set of fragrances from MyChoice. Made with 15 different scents that is perfect for the kind of mood you want to project in a day or even in your night affairs. These will definitely be the kind of scents you want to speak for you. Finish off your look with a spritz of these enticing scent to be the center of attraction wherever you are! Go on, seize the day and be easily noticed with MyChoice Perfume Spray.
The scent is okay, but sadly, I couldn't imagine myself wearing this. So, I guess this goes to somebody as well.

Mustela Stretch Marks Double Action (Sample)
Mustela Hydra Bebe Body Lotion (Sample)
Mustela 2-in-1 and Body Wash (Sample)

I haven't had a baby yet, and for sure, I am not expecting, but I kind of like the idea behind Mustela.

I have lost weight in the past few months, so, I now find stretchmarks a problem. Good thing, BDJ included a Stretch Marks Cream.

The lotion and the 2-in-1 body wash are both welcome, too!

Overall

This is a wonderful box! BDJ was extremely generous as they gave us lots of full-sized items! Plus, the box has a variety of skin care and makeup products, and most of them are new releases.

I am happy with the things that I got, and obviously, I'm looking forward for more!

Thanks BDJ!

Till next unboxing!

Unboxing Post: BDJ Box April 2015 - Spring Into Beauty

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

Time is valuable, which is why a lot of us often opt for the faster options in life. Fast cars, fast processing time, fast foods - if you know what I mean. Truth is, sometimes, we couldn't even afford to lose some time for ourselves. Thanks to other priorities and responsibilities.

Indeed, even the most basic skincare routine, 'cleanse-tone-moisturize' is difficult to maintain on a daily basis.

Good thing, some skincare manufacturers have already considered the inconveniences behind 'skincare layering'. The skincare industry, particularly the Korean skincare market, is now marketing all-in-one skincare products.

How exciting!

Luckily, I got my hands on my first ever 'all-in-one' skincare product last year.

For starters, I got the Calmia Sparkling Roobois Aqua Sprinkler Gel Cream in 150ml.

Pros:
  • Very convenient to use because it's an all-in-one product (booster, toner, emulsion, essence, and gel cream)
  • Can be sprayed or can be used as cream
  • Non-greasy formula
  • Good consistency
  • Absorbs into skin quickly
Cons:
  • 'Sharp' floral scent
  • Stings on skin (sometimes)
  • Could cause redness on skin (sometimes)
  • Not available locally
  • Expensive at $34 (according to Memebox)
  • Doesn't work as a whitening product
I got this product from the Memebox Superbox #31: Herbal Cosmetics last year.

It claims to be an all-in-one product and could be used as a substitute for booster, toner, emulsion, essence, and gel cream. It sounds promising because it could potentially enhance the features of one's facial skin, without spending extra time on layering.

Consistency

I think it's a good skincare product, because it's not greasy on the skin and it absorbs pretty quickly once applied. This solution doesn't spoil makeup application, too. It's like applying over a makeup primer, because at most times, it makes it easy for me to apply liquid foundation or BB cream all over my face.

Solution in the container - bubbly gel

It's also fun because you could use it either as a spray, or a gel. To use it as a spray, you could simply spray it 20cm away from your skin. Spray it closer to the skin, and it will come out as gel.

Calmia Roobois as gel

I frequently use it as a gel because I find it more economical, but when the weather is extra hot and humid, I use it as a spray, because it's refreshing. It's a personal preference though, you could do anything you like with it.

Calmia Roobois as spray

Effectiveness

As expected, this product did work out as a good moisturizer. After application, my skin always turns out well moisturized. Although it promises whitening and anti-wrinkle effects, sadly, I couldn't really attest to it, because it hasn't significantly improved the condition of my skin with respect to those areas.

Batch code and expiry date
I also think that the smell of this thing is a bummer. It smells floral, but not the lovely kind of floral. It's rather strong, and it lingers for a while on the face. It does make me want to sneeze every after application. So, really, I would have preferred this as an unscented product rather than the one with a scent such as this.

Although this claims to be a product with herbal formulation, I still believe that this is not ideal for those with sensitive skin. Even my 'normal' skin reacts to this every once in a while. Sometimes, it stings and burns in one area, and sometimes it causes redness all over. It's not really a big thing for me, but I assume it matters to those who have very sensitive skin.

Repurchase?

It's expensive; it's difficult to find online; and it doesn't smell good for me;

So basically, I won't be buying another bottle of this.

Did I mention that it's rather expensive at $34?

I won't repurchase this, but I won't stop trying other all-in-one products in the market.

Who knows? I might find one that would REALLY cut back my skincare routine.

How about you?

Do you know an all-in-one skincare product such as this? Please let me know by commenting below!

Review: Calmia Sparkling Roobois Aqua Sprinkler Gel Cream 150ml

Monday, March 9, 2015

source: BDJ Box Official Facebook Page

When the BDJ Team finally announced the most-awaited release of the March 2015 BDJBox with this image in their Facebook page, I was filled with excitement!

I know I've seen this image before, and I really have a feeling that it's going to be a brand exclusive box, from Pond's!

And boy, was my guess correct!

Here's what I got from the mail just now:

Crazy, huh? It's a generous box of full-sized Pond's products! And they're the newest line, too!

And, here's the breakdown:

Pond's Flawless White Ultra Luminous Serum 30ml - Php 480

Worrying about uneven skin tone caused by exposure to sunlight and pollution? Now you can unlock flawless, radiant skin in just 7 days! With 9x more radiance power in a single drop, the serum seeks to address spotless, radiant and even-toned skin. It contains VAO-B3 technology that helps block skin pigmentation from appearing in the surface and helps renew our skin. Formulated with GenActiv, this layering serum interrupts the skin's melanin cycles. Stubborn dark spots and discoloration are reduced in one week.

This is the most expensive product in the bunch, and probably the most essential, too. I think Pond's is stepping up their game by introducing serums, despite being a drugstore brand.

'Unlock flawless and radiant skin in just 7 days'? I wonder if this 7-day promise is true. There's no telling for now. Don't worry, I'll give this a try and get back at you if this thing does its job.

Pond's Pearl Cleansing Gel 100g - Php 155
Bonus: Pond's Pearl Cleansing Gel 50g

The newest beauty trend is here! Pond's introduces a breakthrough to add to your beauty regimen, the NEW Pond's Pearl Cleansing Gel. It is the first whitening facial wash in gel formulation that cleanses your skin, making it whiter and fresher, without drying it. It has Vitamin B3 and Pearl Essence known to whiten skin. With its oxygenated formulation, it cleanses and refreshes while locking in moisture, making skin softer and smoother. This newest beauty trend is also perfect for sensitive skin as it has milder ingredients compared to drying, whitening soaps.
I noticed that most products that promise skin whitening, indeed cause skin dryness. This is the main reason why I try to avoid skin whitening products. However, this whitening cleansing gel from Pond's claims that it's different from the rest of the whitening products out there. It supposed to lock in moisture, while whitening the facial skin. I hope it works, because I love cleansing gels so much.

Pond's Flawless White Dewy Rose Gel, 50g - Php 399

Pond's Dewy Rose Gel is the first expert, whitening product that comes in a refreshing gel, formulated by the Pond's Institute. It goes deep within the skin and is clinically proven to lighten dark spots and to smoothen pores. Its unique gel formula is gentle to the touch, instantly cools and hydrates your skin. It has Rose Lumiere serum which is made from alpine rose extract that helps lock in moisture and reduces skin dullness from within. The result? Dewy, soft skin so flawless, it glows. Great as makeup primer, too!
I got two smaller versions of this from my September 2014 BDJ Box. I've been using them on a regular basis, until I ran out last week.

Am I happy receiving a repeat product this time around?

Yes!!!

I love this product so much, and this product that made me believe in Pond's. This White Dewy Rose Gel did what it promised. It improved my complexion significantly, making it brighter and dewier in a healthy way. And, I've been complimented a lot of times since I used this gel. I got compliments at the workplace, I got compliments from school, and I even got compliments from sales ladies from Watsons, HBC, and other beauty stores.

For something so cheap, it does its job really well.

 Pond's Flawless White Re-Brightening Night Cream 50g - Php 340

As skin renewal hits its peak at night, use the Flawless White Re-Brightening Night treatment, a regeneration night cream enriched with GenActiv that repairs skin damage, lightens and evens out dark spots while you sleep. Wake up to radiantly glowing skin as the night formula actively lightens and more importantly, evens out your complexion. This miracle night cream saves you from all the daily torment your skin goes through. This amazing skinovation makes sure that you achieve your skin's potential by matching your skin type and ridding it of impurities.
Night creams are essential, because they are supposed to repair your skin while you're snoozing. For Pond's to promise so much by 'lightening out dark skin spots', then, this should be something. I hope it's the 'miracle' that I'm looking for.

Pond's Flawless White BB+ Cream 25g (2 shades - Beige and Light) - Php 299 each

Get instantly spotless and radiant skin with the Flawless White Whitening Expert BB+ Cream with SPF30 Pa++ from Pond's. It's especially formulated for Asian women who want the benefits of spotless finish and illuminated - from-within radiance. Enriched with GenActive, it hides blemishes instantly and repairs damaged skin permanently. And with an SPF 30 protection, never worry about the sun's harmful effects on your skin again! Its formulation is light, non-oily and non-comedogenic, so it does not clog pores giving both skin care and makeup benefits.
I'm not really into trying out BB Creams nowadays, because I have a whole shelf full of them right now. (I have issues, too.) But I heard good things about Pond's BB Creams, so why not give it a try?

Overall

The past few months, we could see that BDJ boxes have tremendously improved. And this box, is no exception at all. We, Bellas are indeed very spoilt by BDJ.

Obviously, I'm happy with everything that came with this box, and all of which are things I could use!

I do hope BDJ will continue sending out boxes of this quality.

To the BDJ Team, thank you so much for this wonderful box! May you prosper even more!

Love lots,

Marie

Unboxing Post: BDJ Box March 2015 - Pond's Exclusive

Sunday, February 15, 2015

source: kpoptown.com

Enriched with extra virgin olive oil, the Innisfree Olive Real Body Cleanser promises to nourish the skin with moisture. It claims to be free from parabens, minerals, artificial coloring, Benzophenone, and animal ingredients. Innisfree also supports quality olive oil organic farming.

Retails at $15 (approx. Php 690)

Note: Please do forgive me for not including actual photos of this product in this blog post. I have totally ruined the packaging from months of use in the shower. Rest assured that I will describe my experience to the very best of my ability.

Pros:
  • Moisturizes
  • Gives the body a 'polished' look
  • Lathers well
  • A little goes a long way
  • Consistent formulation
  • Excellent product dispensing
  • 5-Free: No Paraben, No Mineral, No Animal Ingredient, No Artificial Coloring, No Benzophenone
  • Supports organic farming
Neutral:
  • Citrusy and grassy scent
  • Scent doesn't last long on skin
Cons:
  • Packaging wears off in the shower
  • Not available locally
  • Expensive for a body wash

Packaging

As you could see on the stock photo I posted above, the container that it came with is pump type. I prefer this kind of container over others because the former makes it easier to dispense some product in the shower. It only takes a couple of pumps, and you could proceed with your cleansing.

When this was delivered, it was wrapped in clear plastic packaging. The plastic packaging came with stickers containing English translations of the product description and directions for use. Sadly, I had to tear off the English instructions to be able to use the product in the shower. All that is left now are directions in Korean.

The packaging would have been perfect, if it wasn't for the stickers. The stickers and other labels came off after I exposed them to the wet environment of our bathroom. I wonder why Innisfree didn't choose waterproof labels for this particular item. Is it because of the eco-friendly campaign they're promoting? I could only speculate on this. Nonetheless, this is not really an issue.

Formulation

When I first opened it, I did find the scent very unpleasant. It didn't smell good to me. It's like a bad herbal scent laced with a bit of citrus. I admit I kind of regret opening it. Its formulation is rather runny, too, and it's looks like a translucent gel. However, I like how it lathers so well, especially if used with a shower ball.

The bottle contains so much product, too, that it took me at least three months to empty!

By the way, a couple of weeks of consecutive use, I didn't find the scent unpleasant anymore. I became used to it, and decided it didn't smell that bad after all.

Effectiveness

I must say that I was impressed by how it cleansed my skin. My skin feels fresh and soft every time I step out of the shower. I also noticed that it leaves a 'polished' look on my skin. I could really attest that this product moisturizes really well. And, I don't even wear lotions!

And despite me hating the scent for the first few weeks, I realized it has some sort of body odor control capabilities, which is just perfect especially during warm and humid days here in the Philippines.

Others

When I bought it, it was on sale, 30 percent off. I don't have much experience with Korean body washes, and so far, I only managed to try Etude's line on body care. Therefore, this was rather a 'test' purchase' for me, to see really, if Korean body cleansers are worth buying. By then, I didn't have an idea what Innisfree was, or how popular it is, especially in the international market.

Review: Innisfree Olive Real Body Cleanser (150ml)

Monday, February 2, 2015

According to most beauty reviews, Clarisonic works like a charm. However, its hefty pricetag prevents everyone from joining the Clarisonic bandwagon.

The original Clarisonic Mia is priced at $100. The Clarisonic Mia 2 is retailed at $149.

Now, are there other options?

Thankfully, lots of companies nowadays venture into competing with Clarisonic’s cleansing brushes. A quick search would give you a variety of cleansing devices to choose from. There's even a variety from known drugstore brands!

Before I ventured into using Clarisonic for my beauty regimen, I took my chances at Olay’s cleansing brush. It wasn’t as expensive as Clarisonic as it was only Php 1803 (approximately $39). I bought mine from Luxola, and if I remember correctly, I got it on sale – 30% off.

The Box

The Olay set I bought came with the following:
  • ·         Facial cleansing device
  • ·         Brush head
  • ·         20ml Olay cleanser
  • ·         2 – AA batteries

I also got myself an extra brush for about Php 423 (approximately $10). I got a bit of luck because it was 30% off as well.

I bought it with the intention of ‘taking my cleansing routine into the next level’. After all, Olay promises to efficiently cleanse the facial skin 4x better than manual cleansing (see photos).

I initially thought that this could be an alternative to the costly Clarisonic, but I guess I was wrong. In my opinion, both devices are not even worth comparing because they are very different. The price difference aside, the Olay Advanced Cleansing Device:
·         has smaller brush diameter compared to Clarisonic; hence, cleansing with the Olay brush would take more strokes than the latter
·         rotates 360 degrees when used as a cleansing device; the Clarisonic ‘pulsates’ and doesn’t even rotate at 360 degrees
·         Olay uses AA batteries
·         No timer. You decide when to stop ‘cleansing’
·         All of Olay’s brush bristles move during cleansing, Clarisonic’s don’t – at least not all of them.
·         Olay’s bristles are for exfoliating the skin, and not for cleansing, in my opinion. The bristles are not gentle enough for cleansing. Clarisonic is for cleansing.

Let me repeat. Don’t even compare this cleansing device with a Clarisonic, because they are very different from each other. You can’t necessarily compare apples with oranges, can you?

Now that I’ve made the differences clear, let’s proceed to the actual review.

Build of the actual device

This Olay Cleansing brush is very sleek and easy to hold.

Despite its small size, it’s a rather ‘heavy’ device. The batteries contribute to its ‘heaviness’, but it’s not quite an issue at all. You can still hold it and do your cleansing.

On another note, I find the brushes really easy to replace. You’ll just have to twist and push the replacement brush, and you’re good to go.

Batteries

battery compartment
One thing I hate about this cleansing device is the battery compartment. Aside from the fact that you’ll have to regularly replace batteries for this brush, the compartment is very difficult to open! It took me around five tries the first time around, and I almost broke the whole thing! It’s the same thing every time I try to open it. It’s always stuck!

Sadly, the battery compartment is the very reason why I bought myself a Clarisonic later on.

Cleansing Device

The brush feels soft and the bristles are fine – not until you turn the device on. Even at ‘normal’ speed, the bristles would sometimes go deep into the pores and hurt me in the process. I wish Olay would just rename this as an ‘exfoliating’ device, rather than a cleansing brush. It really works perfectly as an exfoliator, and should only be used once or twice a week. It might hurt, but using this is worth it.

Performance and Effectiveness

I’ve read in some blogs that cleansing devices could sometimes cause a breakout. I believe I did for a few days when I first used this as a cleanser. My face became sooo red, until I decided to use it sparingly in a week’s time. Instead of using it twice a day as recommended, I managed to cleanse with it twice a week at most. I believe this has significantly improved the condition of my skin.

Did I mention that it took lots of makeup with it, every after I cleanse? It’s great, and I believe it does what it promises – 4x better cleansing than with cleanser alone.

Overall

It’s a decent cleansing device because it’s very affordable and yet, a very effective tool in enhancing one’s facial skin features.

However, I only needed a cleansing brush, and not an exfoliating one. It might be good, but I believe I’m bound for something else.

As of this writing, my sister uses it on a regular basis, and she loves it so much! I gave it up because I realized a needed a Clarisonic. (I'll make a separate review on Clarisonic later on.. :) )

Should You Buy It?

If:
·         You’re fine with using the device twice a week at most;
·         You don’t have sensitive skin;
·         You’re fine with ‘stiff’ brush bristles;
·         You’re fine with 360 degrees rotation for the brush;
·         You don’t mind spending regularly on AA batteries;
·         You’re fine with a bad battery compartment;
·         You want to improve your skin's condition;
·         You’re fine with a device that is water resistant, and NOT waterproof

If you said yes to all of these, then maybe, you should give this cleansing device a try.

And, before I say 'bye bye', here's a snapshot of the Olay Cleanser that this Olya Cleansing Device came with. I haven't had the chance to use it yet, so apologies on that one.

Bye!
