This is for all you lipstick junkies out there! You can go through the rest of this month with the same sheer balm that has become part of your daily makeup ritual, or you can throw caution to the wind and try something totally new! Team Memebox has hand-picked these super rich, super fun, super beautiful lipstick shades that will become your new lip favorites! From unabashed bold hues to classic shades, you'll be ready to sport some vicious lips with these hot lippies form top-of-the-line Korean brands!
Honestly, I wasn't really interested in purchasing this box; my eyes were really on the Cafe Box (see unboxing HERE).

However, when I checked the VALUE SETS section, both the Cafe Box and the Lipstick Box were bundled together. Then, I figured that it might be better to take advantage of the FREE EXPRESS SHIPPING Memebox offers on value sets.

Since this is a 'lipstick box', I assume that there won't be glosses or other lip products that are not lipsticks at all. Though, I admit that I'm quite worried on the possibility that Memebox might put a product that is totally unrelated to the box's theme. For all I know, Memebox has done something like this before, and I really wouldn't want that to happen to the lipstick box.

The lipstick box should be all lipsticks - nothing else.

Aside from that concern, I do hope that the chosen lip shades would suit me well. Well, I embraced the risk, so I guess there's nothing else I could do but to unbox it.

So, after weeks of waiting, here it is:

The box that it came with was smaller than the regular Memeboxes, which made sense, because lipsticks are not supposed to be bulky.

I'm not really good at describing lippies, but I'll do my best to describe them.

So, here they are. They are arranged according to my preferences:

Shara Shara Feminine Glossy Lipstick 3.4g ($12)

Rich in color formation and smoothly applying its texture, this Feminine Glossy Lipstick offers a wide array of color options and it effectively coats your lip with a high level of radiance and long-lasting suppleness, which comes from its gentle formula enriched with Damascus rose oil and rosehip seed extracts.
This was the very first lipstick that I opened, and I was pleasantly surprised. Its container is somewhat bigger than your typical lipstick, and it has a unique packaging, too. Above all, its color is so pretty.

I got CR02 Brownie Peach, which is so adorable. It's like a muted pink. Not too bright, and not too dull either. I personally think it would look great on different skin tones. Also, by the looks of it, I think it's perfect for everyday use.

Karadium Movie Star Lipstick 4.5g ($29)

Karadium's famous Movie Star Lipstick combines a lip balm, a tint, and a gloss altogether in one smart tint lipstick. It will protect and maintain the moisture level of your lip all day long while offering the perfectly long-lasting waterproof, vivid, and non-sticky glossiness!
I wasn't really fascinated by this lipstick at first. I had this irrational presumption that lipsticks named after Hollywood, movie and movie stars, whatsoever (such as this Karadium Movie Star Lipstick), would always lead to bright red lippies, by which I'm not really a fan of.

However, Memebox must have seen through that, and sent us lippies in pink shade. (Yey!) I got 02 Royal Pink, which is really close to neon pink. Think Katy Perry or Nicki Minaj. That's how 'pink' it is. I haven't tried it yet, but I am really looking forward to using it!

It's on the pricey side though, but I'm pretty sure its something else, because it promises the benefits of lip balm, a tint, and a lip gloss. Sounds really interesting!

I Myss 3D Cinema Transform Lipstick 3.5g ($14)

A magical lipstick that changes its color when applied on lips, the 3D Cinema Transform Lipstick is not only fun and unique but also effective in delivering colorful vibrancy and softening dry, chapped lips. The Pretty Blue applies on with a light pink hue, the Sexy Red with a more vivid redness, the Pink Red with a coral shade, the Funny Yellow with an orange hue, and the Wine Purple with a purplish violet color.
Back in 2010, I was somehow obsessed with color-changing lipsticks, but I never got my hands on them. I stalked blogs and online Korean shops for months, but ended up empty-handed. Fast forward, four years later, here comes a 'color-changing' lippie from Memebox.

This lipstick sounds promising though. Obviously, I haven't had the chance to try it out yet. I wonder if it really works as a 'color-changing' lippie? I got the Wine Purple, which could turn into a... purplish violet color. Whut????!

I don't know if what Memebox wrote makes sense. But I'm hopeful anyway. I do wish this would transform! Otherwise, putting this product in third place would be for nothing!

Hope Girl Milky Balm Lipstick 3.4g ($22)

Hope Girl's Milky Balm Lipstick is the ultimate creamy smooth long-lasting lipstick that stays put for up to 10 hours! Get famously beautiful lips that stand out from the crowd with these gorgeous lip colors packed with Vitamin E. It's guaranteed to keep your lips feeling looking smooth and looking marvelous every second of the day! Plus, how can you resist this perfectly cute packaging?
Speaking of hope, I got this Milky Balm Lipstick from Hope Girl. I am in love with the packaging! Animal print is screaming sophistication!

It would have been on the top spot if it wasn't for the shade though. I got BG602 Sand Beige, which is a nude color. Nudes make me look extremely pale and ghostly. It's difficult to part from it but I might give this away to friends and relatives.

Ernesti Bijou Bijou Lipstick No. 36 Edge Red 3.4g ($12)

Ernesti Lipstick boosts its high purity pastel color formation which creates that perfect moist, voluminous cherry-like lip makeup so loved among Korean celebs and beauty aficionados.
I'm not really a fan of red reds. Hence, I just might want to give this away as well. And 'voluminous' lips are not really my thing.

Cheek Room Lipstick 4g ($12)

Cheek Room's moisturizing lipstick instantly adds abundant color radiance and firmness to your lip with just a single touch. It glides onto lips velvet smooth and offers luminous pearling and emollient effects.
Here's another nude, in 10 Pink Brown. I somehow imagined its shade  close to Shara Shara's Feminine Glossy Lipstick in CR02 Brownie Peach, which I obviously like (see the top product of this post). However, upon opening, I figured that Cheek Room's shade is lighter than Shara Shara's. A very pale nude, which I'm not really a fan of.

Somebody might be able to appreciate this even more since I'll be giving this away as well.

Overall

Money-wise, it's a good box. Memebox is always perfect on that aspect. You get your money's worth basically all the time.

However, out of the six items from this box, I considered three items as misses. Since this is an all-makeup box, I guess the hit-miss ratio is pretty much understandable, simply because our physical appearances vary. Some may look good in nudes, while others are the complete opposite.

Nonetheless, I'm happy that I get to keep three lippies, which I believe would last me for a whole year. So, basically, I'm on a no-buy mode on lipsticks from this point on, until of course, I empty every single tube of lippie I have.

Still, thank you Memebox for putting so much thought in this.

Unboxing Post: Memebox Superbox #58 Lipstick Box

Monday, May 19, 2014

It’s been two months, and I haven’t written anything for this blog. Believe me, I’ve been thinking of this blog the whole time I was in hiatus; my hands are itching to write something not related to my day job, and my schooling. Quite unfortunately, activities that are placed higher in my list of priorities got the better of me. You see, I have my day job, my master’s degree, my business (sometimes, I forget about this, too), and my ‘self-improvement’ routines.

Bottom line: So many things to do, so little time.

I guess I’m not alone when it comes to this kind of dilemma. Anyway, it’s not at all bad news.

Good news: I accumulated so many beauty products in the past few months.

And yes, I’m dying to review all of them.  They are piling up, and it would be a waste not to share my first-hand experience with them. So please, stick with me.

Today, I’ll be reviewing about a lip tint from another Korean brand, Holika Holika.

Meet Holika Holika Holy Berry Tint # 3 – Orange Berry

STOCK PHOTO

Holika Holika Holy Berry Lip Tint # 3 Orange Berry

Trivia:

1)      This is my first Holika Holika product.
2)       This is my first ever lip tint.

I bet it says Shade # 3 Orange Berry. Sorry, I couldn't read Korean.

According to PrettyandCute.com,

Holika Holika Holy Berry Tint is a water based tint that leaves your lips with a refreshed feeling. It won’t only moisturize your lips but it also creates a softening effect, by using patented Micro Nutrients Berry Blend. Water-soluble pigment creates more vivid color, which makes it great to use before lipsticks or glosses for longer lasting and added color.

A very soft lip applicator
For more information on the product, you may read the full description here.

Surely, the description says a lot of good things about the Holika Holika Holy Berry Tint. In summary, it is supposed to be:

·         Refreshing
·         Moisturizing
·         Softening
·         Pigmented
·         Long lasting

Sounds good or sounds too good to be true? Let’s see, then.

Packaging

This is how I opened the tube. I ripped the stickers, because I was too excited to try it out.

At first glance, you might find it cute; it is very Iight and handy, and the color really stands out, surely reminds me of fresh strawberry juice.  However, a few days after using it, I broke it somehow. Maybe, I mistakenly pulled the cap the wrong way, which is why it separated from the rest of the wand. Hence, all that I can show you are the ‘ugly’ packaging photos.  I feel bad, because the packaging should have been designed not to break easily. Nonetheless, this little flaw didn’t prevent me from using this on a daily basis, and I simply can’t throw it out yet.

I damaged the cap, and yes, it's messy all over.

I admit; I’ve had my worries because the tint might spill out in my bag. I’ve had bad experiences on liquid and cream cosmetics spillage, but for this particular tint, I tucked it in my bag anyway. I know, it has a broken cap, and should have kept it in a safer place, but I’m glad because I never had any problems with it.

No spills thanks to the extra material right at the opening of the tube! Yey!

The tube in a closer view

Lastly, although this product looks pretty straightforward in what it does (duh, it’s obviously a lip tint), I would have preferred its texts to have English translations on it. Aside from its name, its packaging is purely in Korean. For all I know, Holika Holika has been in the international scenario for quite some time now, so maybe, they should just improvise their labels?

Experience

Don’t get fooled by the packaging. At one look, it may look like a deep shade of red. However, this is not red, nor pink – this is orangey, as stated...

Orangey, orangey, orangey...

After using this on a daily basis for over a month, I realized that this may not be your typical lip tint.
1)                  It’s pigmented, but not overwhelming when applied on lips; one swipe, and that’s all you need. This alone leaves me an impression that one little tube could last me for months.
2)                  Its color easily spreads. I think the formulation is excellent, compared to brands I’ve tried before (e.g. Benetint, Ellana Minerals);
3)                  Looks natural when applied - perfect for lazy days when you don’t feel like applying (and reapplying) lip products from time to time.
4)                  Stays on for hours - six hours, maybe?
5)                  Colors stays on your lips even after drinking and/or eating.
6)            Goes well with any other lip product on top of it.

Swatched it on my Corona Notebook - it shows a pretty orange shade.

Let’s not forget that Holika Holika claims this particular lip tint as: 1) refreshing, 2) moisturizing, and 3) softening.

Sadly, I couldn’t attest that it is indeed softening, nor refreshing when applied. There’s a slight pleasant sensation when you apply this tint on your lips, but it’s hardly noticeable, and I don’t think refreshing is the right word for that.

Also, there’s a very good reason why I try to refrain from using lip tints – most of them don’t moisturize at all. Most of them leave lips dry with color, which could be an ugly sight, especially if you have lips like mine. I hate it when my lips dry up and show visible cracks all over.  Vivid lip color, for the most part, just makes it worse.

Obviously, Holika Holika did exert its efforts to put an end to this dilemma, but its moisturizing effect is not quite perfect yet. I’ve had the same problem on dry and cracked lips, but I do appreciate the difference it has made. I guess it’s way ahead than Benetint and Ellana Minerals.

Rating?

It’s a 4.70/5.00 since it’s very promising. I love its long staying power, and the natural look it creates on your lips.

Repurchase?

Yes! This product is awesome. Like most of you, I have so many lazy days to deal with, and I find this lip tint very handy. The moisturizing effect needs a little more work, but you could deal with it by applying a lip gloss on top it. It should go well.

Well, I guess this is all for now. If you have tried this lip tint before, or you have some suggestions, please let me know.

Love lots,

NEWBEE

Review: Holika Holika Holy Berry Lip Tint # 3 - Orange Berry

Tuesday, December 31, 2013

Before the year officially ends, here’s one last review that I wish to share to everyone. This time, it’s a lipstick from Etude House’s Sweet Recipe: Dear My Jelly Lips Talk, JPK002.

Stock photo from the Internet

Swatches as shown on ads. JPK002 is shown on the first row.

History
*You may skip this part, if you like.

Like most of my cosmetics, I bought this particular lipstick on a whim. Sometime around June 2013, I was doing some window shopping with my bf, when we happened to pass by an Etude House shop. We both went in; I was searching for a new lipstick and I was really hoping to find one in Etude.

As expected of Etude House, everything was orderly, and the products are well-kept and well-displayed. Who would miss the products in cute packaging? Everything was like candy or cookies, or cake. Simply put, most of their products remind us of delicious pastries and candies: one of the many reasons why most girls fell in love with Etude House almost instantly.

Actual photo after so many months from the date of purchase

Anyway, I was shown to the lipstick section. The SA showed me around, and introduced me to the Sweet Recipe My Jelly Lips Line. I was skeptical at first, because it was pricey, around Php 470; I had my eyes on the cheaper ones, but the SA assured me that the Jelly Lips could last for more than 4 hours, especially the dark pink shade, JPK002. It was Etude’s newest lipstick during the time, too.

Because of the assurance of the SA and the impatience of my boyfriend (who happened to spot a gorgeous pair of running shoes on the other shop), I was left with very little choice but to buy it. And so, gone was my Php 470+ and hello, my new lipstick! Later that day, I realized that I didn’t even get the chance to swatch the Etude lipsticks prior to my purchase.

Talk about impulse buying!

The Product

The lipstick originally came in with a cute box, which by the way, featured varied images of jellybeans. I lost mine, so I had to grab a stock photo from the internet just to show you the box. Please see the first photo of this post.

The lipstick is actually cute; pretty simple but so darn cute!

My Dear My Jelly Lips Talk JPK002 (Actual Photo)
The pink jelly lipstick is gorgeous too. When Etude says jelly, it looks like jelly indeed!

Swatches on my skin. Notice the glossiness!

Most of all, I fell in love with the fragrance that it came with. The lipstick somewhat smells like cherry bubblegum; so sweet, and so irresistible. No wonder I feel like putting it on whenever I can. If you’re not a fan of lipsticks, or lip glosses, this could possibly change your mind.

Application

JPK002 is a dark pink shade, and it is very pigmented. When I was I kid, I used to play with red tinted lollipops and swipe them on my lips so that I would have cherry-colored lips. Surprisingly, the shade is close to the ‘lollipop lipstick’, and I couldn’t simply get enough of it. It’s also buildable and moisturizing.

JPK002 is indeed very pigmented!
The downside is that it could barely last for four hours. After all, its composition is closer to a lip gloss. Nonetheless, I don’t find this a problem at all, because I’d be more than happy to reapply this lipstick anytime. It smells so good and it feels so good on the lips.

I fell in love with the lipstick, no doubt, but the thing melted in my handbag a few weeks after my purchase. The whole thing was reduced to a third. It appears that it’s sensitive to heat. Given that I live in a hot and humid country, this may not be a very good idea to carry around.  Since then, I’ve been leaving this lipstick inside my refrigerator. If you’re residing in the Philippines, you may want to think about buying this, too. I’m still using this but I guess I’ll run out of it soon.

All that is left for me because this thing melted in my bag. :(

It was significantly reduced to a third.

My Verdict

I will give the Etude House Sweet Recipe My Jelly Lips Talk Lipstick JPK002 a 4.00 out of 5.00.

So far, this is the best lipstick I ever had, and unfortunately, this is the only lipstick that melted in my bag. I might not repurchase again, but I’ll keep looking for great lippies at Etude House.

Anyway, I hope you learned a lot. Please stick around for more reviews.

I wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Love,

NEWBEE
