Chances are, you've probably suffered from dryness and flaking, and the redness and itching that comes with it at some point in your life. And, with the colder seasons ahead, it's crucial that you take the next step in your skin care to protect and soothe your skin!

According to a recent survey, dry and sensitive skin reacts at least 56% of us, and the sad truth is, skin dehydration and sensitivity increases as we age. So, let us help you soothe and solve all your dry and sensitive skin needs with a few moist-full tweaks to your beauty routing. Fortify the skin’s moisture barrier this season and forever lock in moisture and hydration for a dewy and supple complexion for allday hydration!
Memebox, you are so damn right about it! This description is so accurate in my case. And, I know, I am not alone - a lot of us have dry and sensitive skin.

I purchased the Memebox For Dry and Sensitive Skin box with the hope of finding some excellent products to minimize the dryness of my skin.

So, here it is:

Let me give you a breakdown of the products. I have arranged them all according to my preferences:

The Yeon Jeju Hallabong Energy Mild All-in-one Serum 100ml - $20

The Yeon's Jeju Hallabong series boosts its organic formula made from the "Hallabong", which is a special type of orange cultivated only in the Jeju Island and best loved for bursting with vitamin C and super sweet and tasty juiciness. Infused with other Jeju-born organic ingredients such as kiwi, broccoli, and aloe vera, this Energy Mild All-In-One Serum works to replenish, soften and protect the skin.
This is not the first appearance of the Yeon's Jeju Hallabong in the Memebox webpage. If you've been following the releases for CutiePieMarzia boxes, I'm sure you've seen this.

Those CPM boxes weren't appealing to most Memeboxers, but I once considered purchasing a box just to get a hold of this product. But since the cost outweighs the benefits for that option, I just let it go, and I'm glad I did. Memebox eventually incorporated this to other boxes such as this one: for the dry and sensitive skin.

I have high hopes for products made from Jeju resources, but I haven't had the chance to try one. Thank you, Memebox, for this serum.

Zamian Trouble Skin Handmade Soap Ac'xxii 100g - $18

A handmade facial bar soap for troubled, sensitive skin types. The blend of tea tree oil, lavender oil, and manuka honey helps treat blemishes and bring back the skin's natural growth from within. The opaque part of the soap targets redness and irritated spots on the skin while the middle translucent part of the soap deeply moisturizes and soothes the easily dehydrated and sensitive skin.
Opening this Memebox was like heaven to me, because I caught a wonderful scent of infused herbs. Turns out, the scent was from THIS soap. This soap is basically for troubled skin, but as of now, I don't think I could use this just yet, because it's soooo fragrant. I could put this near my pillow to help me with my sleep.

 Migabee Botanical Moisture Mist 150ml - $22

This is a botanical body mist formulated from natural herbal ingredients such as aloe vera, verbena, red ginseng, and camellia oil. Its gentle formula is fast-absorbing and works to rejuvenate and de-stress dry, tired skin.
To be honest, I wasn't really expecting a product for the body. And, I would have preferred a moisturizing lotion over a moisturizing mist. However, since this product is from Migabee and it is supposedly infused with herbs and other good stuff, I might try this one out soon.

Pureplus + Lip Treatment 10g - $9

High concentrates of collagen delivers rich nourishment and a lasting suppleness to dry, chapped lips. It also contains various nutrients such as snail mucus extracts, shea butter, grape seed oil, hyaluronic acid, and Vitamin E for protecting lips from further dehydration and damage.
All the ingredients listed sound like a perfect concoction for perfect lips. I'm definitely using this after I empty my lip balms.

Pedison Nutritive Infusion Cream 120ml - $29

A body cream carefully formulated for sensitive and dry skin, containing 0% preservatives, natural lipids, non-comodegenic ingredients, and 2-action hydration layer. This advanced combination of moisturizing agents penetrates deep into skin to deliver instant moisture resurge and restore comfort and suppleness. Its gentle, lightweight texture also leaves your skin feeling silky soft and well-nourished.
Another product for the body, and it has a weird name. Pedison? Seriously? It sounds like Edison having a pedicure! Just kidding.

But, I have no plans for this product yet, because I still have a bunch of lotions in my stash.

Anacis Triactive Dermatis Intensive Cream 20ml  - $12

This essential soothing cream suits even the most irritated and reactive complexions. Gentle enough for women in pregnancy, and even babies, this cream helps relieve dryness,  and maintains the skin's natural moisture balance, infused with 27 natural extracts - green tea, mandarin, walnut,  squalene and much more - this ultra gentle soothing cream contains effective comforting properties to especially benefit traumatized, allergy-prone, thin, aging, sun-sensitive, tight, and dehydrated skin types. A propriety blend of STRUCTURINE peptides in the formula works to strengthen the skin's cell walls, and it forms a protective veil over the skin to prevent damage from external stressors.
Okay, that was a long description. Like the others, I have no plans for this product just yet. My skin condition just DOESN'T need that much consideration.

Overall

I think this is an okay box, considering that all of the items included adhere to the theme. I wish there was an anti-trouble spot cream in this, too.

Despite its adherence to the 'dry and sensitive' theme, I didn't find this an exciting box at all. The lotions' packaging was unappealing. They don't look 'fun' to use at all. They just simply look like your typical drugstore brands.  But, that was just meh.

Also, I expected this box to contain a lot of facial products because most problems occur on the face and not on the body. This explains why I might just prefer to use my favorite lotions than the ones Memebox included. Lotions don't have much of a difference in my case.

That's all! Please, let me know what you think about this by commenting below!

Love lots,

Newbee

Unboxing Post: Memebox Special #57: For Dry and Sensitive Skin

Saturday, December 13, 2014

All countries have those strange beauty products that make you go huh and hmmm, and Korea is no exception. This 4th OMG Box is bursting with a range of bizarre and brilliant to "WTF?!" but we promise that these beauty befuddlements will provide a wide range of beauty benefits.
We admit these innovations may looks slightly intimidating at first,  but we know that you secretly want these crazies a try!
I don't want anything too absurd when it comes to my beauty products. However, after careful thought, I figured that several of my skincare favorites, such as snail slime and bee venom, were all OMG products 5 years ago. I remember being too hesitant to try them out. Now, I use them on a daily basis, and my skin's condition has become better than ever.

So, I took the chance and bought this OMG box - hoping to find a couple or more of HG products that are out of the ordinary. I bundled this with the Memebox Special #57 For Dry and Sensitive Skin to take advantage of the Free Express Shipping.

Want a sneak peek?

Why, here it is:

I have arranged the products according to my preferences:

ABALONE Crystal Double EX Cream 50ml - $78

This Abalone Crystal Double EX Cream is concentrated with fermented abalone, black bean extract, and watermelon extract to deliver a cosmic blast of skin care benefits. Fresh 'abalones' from the Southern Coast of Korea are highly recognized as the King of Shellfish, with their mucin containing abundant minerals, proteins, amino acids, and essential fatty acids to provide remarkable skin revitalizing, wrinkle reducing, skin brightening, and hydrating benefits. It also soothes irritated skin, and enhances the skin's elasticity to deliver visible anti-aging results with each use!
I haven't used anything with Abalone before, so this is a first. I must admit, it doesn't have the OMG factor to it, but I'm willing to try it out. Also, I definitely can't miss this product, simply because it comes with a high pricetag and exquisite packaging.

Dr. MJ Moisture Bounce Aqua Memory BB SPF30 PA++ 45g - $46

Yes, we've all been through a BB cream, but what about a bouncy, jelly-like BB packaged in a bottle and scooped using a spatula like any ohter facial cream?  Dr. MJ Moisture Bounce Aqua Memory BB adheres tightly onto skin with its cushiony texture and offers wrinkle care, UV protection, and skin brightening effects as well.
This 'bouncy' BB Cream sounds so gimmicky, but I kind of like the idea of that. It sounds like a fun product to use. I wonder if the 'bouncy' property of this product actually does something for your skin? I sure hope so, because a $46 pricetag is not so cheap at all - especially if being 'bouncy' is the only thing that makes it different from the rest of its kind.

Pureplus+ Cocoon Returning Toner 200ml - $18

Replenish, control excess sebum, remove dead skin cells and impurities, and brighten up dulled complexion with this toner packed with cocoon extracts, witch hazel, and various vitamins to make your face look and feel younger.
I am extremely curious on how this toner would work on my skin.

Also, I wonder how the makers of this toner extracted the 'extract' from cocoons, or were there actually insect/larvae extracts with it?

Shara Shara Secret Magic Lipstick 3.5g -$8

A secret, color-transforming lipstick, which offers a highly pigmented radiance, a long-lasting adherence, and a moisture lock-in all in just a single swipe. Experience how it magically changes its shade according to the temperature of or lips! Its gentle formula is enriched with avocado oil and tocopheryl acetate which effectively protects lips from dehydration.
I'm no newbie on 'magic lipsticks' or anything of the like. In fact, even Avon has its own version of color-changing lippies as well. So, this is not really an OMG product. But, thanks anyway.

Purebess Hot Styling Hair Fixer 8g - $16

No it's not a hair spray or a wax gel cream. It's a hair fixer that you can apply multiple times consecutively because the formula is non-sticky and lightweight and it's shaped into an easy to use mascara-like package! Simply swipe away to fix up and style any loose hair for that perfect, stewardess look.
I can't believe anybody would actually succumb to using this. Sounds like a vanity overkill. And it sure does reminds me of Johnny Bravo combing his hair real fast. On second thought, this might be useful, especially if you don't have a comb at hand.

Another novelty item, but I'm thankful anyway.

Nadu Skin The First Love Pack

Here's to a truly OMG product in the history of Memebox - specially designed mask packs for a female and a male's Y-zone (definitely not for facial use!!!) - to be used to moisture and treat the most sensitive yet uncared for part of the body. They're formulated with lavender flower water and various moisturizing nutrients and each designed to perfectly fit female and male body.
This...

This is probably the only thing in the box that I hate - I hate so much.

Aside from the fact that they are one-time use mask sheets, they can only be used on the private parts - one for male and another for female. I can't imagine myself using this, or I couldn't even see myself gifting this to others.

I know this might be hilarious to some, but I was downright disappointed to the most OMG/WTF product in this box. For the nth time, Memebox, please, don't give out products that are for the private parts. Put those stuff in another box (eg Private Box, Secret Box, whatsoever), but please don't mix them out with other themed boxes.

Overall

It's an okay box, but I wasn't really surprised. There was very little OMG factor to it, but I'm glad  I'll get to use the abalone cream and the cocoon toner.

Well, that's all for this unboxing.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

 Love lots,

Newbee

Unboxing Post: Memebox Special #55 OMG 4

My December 2014 BDJBox came in a bit late, most probably because of the maddening Christmas rush everyone is experiencing. This is expected because everybody's frantic about a lot of stuff. Imagine the stress courier personnel have to go through, and I understand that.

Despite the late deliveries, I was pleasantly surprised when I tore away the packaging!

Look, it's...

COVERGIRL

and it features:

KATY PERRY!

I'm a fan of Katy Perry, because she's really versatile as a performer. She has the skills: powerful singing voice and insane guitar skills (for a girl even!) Most of all, she has the looks and audacity to wear different costumes.

But did you know that without makeup, she looks different? (But still pretty, nonetheless)

Source: dailymail.co.uk
This proves that makeup sure is something! And Covergirl must have been playing a big part on this since we-don't-know-when.

But, thanks to BDJBox, I'll get to try Covergirl's products for a fraction of a price. So, without further ado, here are the contents of the Covergirl's Exclusive BDJBox:

And, here's the breakdown:

Cheekers Blush in 105 - Rose Silk

Get an easy and natural rosy silk flush with this new and upcoming portable mini-compact that gives you subtle highlights that goes on to stay-true, stay natural-looking for hours. A sassy way to give life to your cheeks exclusively available only at BDJBox.
I've accumulated about 6 different blushers within a month, and so, this will have to be the seventh. But, I'm really happy that both BDJBox and Covergirl could contribute to my recent blush addiction.

By the looks of it, this blush would look perfect on fair skintone! And Covergirl, I take your word that this blush would last for hours.

According to the curator card, this 3g blush retails for Php 395 each.

Liquiline Blast Eye Pencil

This liner's high-pigment formula and built-in smudger gives you the intensity and staying power for eyes that will definitely get you noticed. Easily achieve that intense definition or subtle, smoky look.
I appreciate eyeliners now, because they do make a difference to my tiny eyes. But, I always have a problem with eyeliners, because they tend to smudge and give me that panda look. However, I think this eyeliner is worth looking into, because it might be different from the rest. And, it's pricier, too!

At 9.5g, it retails at Php 450 each.

LashBlast Fusion Water Resistant Mascara

Its super-volumizing, fiberstretch mascara formula and oversized brush make every little lash bigger, fuller, longer-looking and more dramatic. Its waterproof formula gives you volume and length - rain or shine!
And since I have a lash topcoat from Etude House, I wouldn't worry much about this mascara smudging anymore. I haven't tried this yet, but judging from the wand, this mascara could make wonders on your lashes. It sounds like bigger and fuller lashes are within an arm's reach through this promising mascara.

This mascara retails at Php 595 each.

TruBlend Pressed Powder

Has silky-smooth formula that adapts perfectly to your skin tone. A perfect coverage to achieve a fresh, no makeup look. Especially designed to match with the TrueBlend Liquid Makeup. A lightweight formula that controls shine and doesn't clog pores.
I occasionally use pressed powders, because I'm extremely lazy. At most times, I only grab a BB cream, blend it over my face, and I'm done with my makeup. But since I also do my best on not becoming wasteful, I intend to use this with the Covergirl TruBlend Liquid Makeup.

I haven't used this yet, but I do hope this shade, 02 - translucent light would suit my fair skin. Otherwise, this and the liquid makeup of the same shade, will have to go somewhere else.

This pressed powder retails for Php 425 each.

TruBlend Liquid Makeup

A liquid foundation that provides smooth full coverage for a flawless natural-look. You won't even know where your makeup ends and where your skin begins. Available in 21 shades to perfectly match 99 percent of all skin tones.
I avoid liquid foundation, because the ones I've tried in the past are either too gross, too grimy, too greasy, too cakey or too heavy on my facial skin. However, this one's different, according to Covergirl, because you won't even know where your makeup ends and where your skin begins. Then again, Covergirl, I take your word on that.

This liquid foundation retails at Php 645 each.

Overall

Do that math, and you'll discover that the contents of this box should be around Php 2500, despite the fact that I only paid Php 580 (including shipping) for it. And, all are in full sizes!

Obviously, I'm very happy with this box, and it feels like an early Christmas present. I must say, this must be one of the best boxes BDJBox has to offer!

So happy, and so satisfied!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Love lots,

Newbee

Unboxing Post: BDJBox December 2014 - A Covergirl (Katy Perry) Exclusive Box

Guess what? It's an epic moment in Memebox history - Etude House is finally available! Who says serious skincare and makeup has to be, well, serious? Not Etude House!

Although Etude House's cult-favorite products pack a punch with seriously effective ingredients, their cheeky names and ridiculously cute packaging never fail to make you smile! Offering a wide range of beauty products, Etude House delivers 100% satisfaction for all! It's a win-win situation: crazily adorable beauty goodies that are totally effective! Why wait? Shop now!
Etude House is one of my favorite Korean beauty brands. A K-Beauty fanatic, could never be one without trying out Etude House first. And, I'm pretty sure, this brand sucked me into the wonderful world of Korean makeup and skincare. I just love Etude House! And despite all the other wonderful Korean beauty brands I discovered through the years, I still can't let go of Etude House!

When Memebox released the Etude House Exclusive Box, I was ecstatic! And then again, eventually, was another Meme-splurge.

I have tried almost everything Etude House, so I kind of expected this box to provide us with new or limited edition products.

Here's a sneak peak:

And let's take a look at them, one by one!

I have arranged the products according to my preferences.

Etude House Moistfull Collagen Cream 60ml - $18

Specially formulated with marine collagen and mucilagefrom baobab trees, the famous Moistfull Collagen Cream isa gentle, deeply moisturizing, and skin firming facial cream.

It's fast-absorbing and lightweight in texture as well, making it a suitable moisturizer for both the summer and winter times.
I tell you, the Etude House Moistfull Collagen Skincare Line is Holy Grail material. I even raved about it here. So, yeah, I don't mind owning another set at all. In fact, I have backups of these already.

In case you're wondering, that tiny bottle there is an essence in sample size.

Etude House Face Conditioning Fixer 80ml - $12

A makeup boosting fixer for cooling, refreshing, and moisturizing the skin while locking makeup in place for a long-lasting, silky finish. It also helps soothe and relieve reddened or irritated skin with its aloe vera infused formula.
This came in second, because this is a new product for me. I don't think I have seen this in any of the Etude House stores before, but it sure is interesting!

It's supposed to do a lot of things for your face - like 'lock-in' makeup, boost makeup, enhance finish of makeup, and relieve the skin. I used this for last night's Christmas party, wherein I was wearing heavier makeup than I used to. But, sad to say, I can't vouch for the effectiveness of this product. I haven't seen noticeable changes on my skin at all.

Nonetheless, it's cooling on the skin, so it's pretty handy whenever you're wearing layers of makeup! I'll put this to the test once again in the next few days to come.

Etude House Play Therapy Sleeping Pack 150ml - $10

Etude's special formula "Nutrition Compact" - a blend of pomegranate, mango seed butter, and evening primrose -combined together with rich collagen complex work to deeply nourish and tighten up dry, sagging skin overnight, for a mochi-firm and radiant complexion the next morning.
I love sleeping packs. This is interesting because it's composed of pomegranate and mango seed butter. Above all, it contains collagen, too!  The ingredients I mentioned are extremely popular skincare ingredients that could 'firm' the skin.

And yes, the packaging is soooo cute!

Etude House Belle Dress Pretty Look Shower Cologne 100ml - $8

Get ready in the morning with a spritz of Belle Dress cologne which comes in a fruity perfume complex - a blend of fruity sweetness, jasmine floral, refreshing green note, and warm musk scents. Its blend of hyaluronic acid, natural spring water, and the lovely perfume fragrance will give a refreshingly moist and sweetly scented start to your day.
I love the fancy packaging of this cologne. It's so handy and sooo princessy! Too bad I can't describe how this smells like for now. My nose is still so clogged from flu. :(

Etude House Brow Mascara 4.5g - $7

A mascara for your brows! Non-smudging, long-lasting and containing allantoin, beeswax, and carnauba wax components rich in nutrition, this Brow Mascara from Etude House offers a naturally-defined and youthful-looking arches with just a quick smudge!
An EH SA tried this product on my brows during my last visit to the Etude House store just a couple of weeks ago. She enticed me into buying this, because, according to her, my brows are so dark and full, that I need to tone it down with this brown brow mascara. Glad I declined, because Memebox placed this product in my Memebox anyway.

Still, I don't think I need this, because doesn't do much for my brows. I'll play with this even more though.

Etude House Oh My Lash Mascara 01 Top Coat 8.5g - $5

Ever heard of a top coat for your lashes? Create translucent and glossy lashes by applying it alone, or give a non-smudging and long-lasting finish to your regular eye makeup by applying it over mascara.

When I first saw this, I laughed because product seems to promote makeup overkill. I mean, how many products are you supposed to put on your lashes? It's crazy, it almost sounds like a mani-pedi routine.

But, I tried this last night over Benefit They're Real lashes, and this product is just so awesome! It does help in keeping your mascara in place. It made a difference! If you're worried about your mascara smudging, this is probably the ideal product for you!

Thumbs up Etude House~!

Overall

Obviously, my first impressions on the products were somewhat inaccurate this time around. Some products that I didn't expect to create much of a difference were phenomenal, while some were just okay.

For me, this box is just 'okay'. It didn't really excite me, but it wasn't a bad box either. Probably, at first look, it might look like a crappy box, but the products are awesome and well-curated. I know a lot of these products are not new releases, but I'm happy anyway.

Unboxing Post: Memebox Superbox #72 Etude House

Friday, December 5, 2014

New Memebox releases have been extremely scarce nowadays. Memebox suddenly changed course, leaving us wondering on what could be up ahead for Memebox. Sad to say, Memebox seemed to prioritize the Memeshop more than their new box releases. Check the website, and you'll notice that Sale banners have gone up for the Memeshop items, but no updates for the Memeboxes.

I believe, we've only seen about five new boxes for the past five weeks. Sad to say, these new boxes sounded boring, too. Nonetheless, they got sold out in a short span of time, probably because Memeaddicts got impatient over the long wait. I can't blame them. I almost fell for it, too because I've loved Memebox. I loved the old Memebox.

Memebox didn't even bother for an explanation. Just like that, we, Memeaddicts and Memefans are left hanging by the thread. If this continues, I might as well forget about Memebox, because to be frank, I don't care about their shop or their own products at all. In fact, I haven't bought anything from them at all, except for the boxes (of course!)

To date, I only have about 5 pre-ordered boxes left to be delivered, one of which is still on transit mainly because it was delayed for shipping for over a month now.  But, I understand the situation Memebox was in, so it was forgivable.

What's unforgivable is the sudden cold turkey on us.

Why, Memebox? Why?

Now, I'll steer clear from all the negativity.

On a lighter note, I'm happy to announce that I received four Memeboxes this week. But, I won't rush it, I'll only unbox one for now. After all, the last 5 boxes are on their way.

Without further ado, here's the Memebox Special #58: Beauty 911:
Bad hair days, vicious zits, days when it's just so obvious that you've partied way too hard the night before - we've all been in that situation when we would've killed for a beauty emergency kit. Smart us, we've curated the perfect all-inclusive beauty box to save you in all your beauty predicaments, and put an end to all the madness.

I kind of expect anti-trouble spot treatments, cooling and/or soothing gels, makeup erasers, eye creams, blackhead/whitehead balms, hair serums and zit concealers from this box. But really, I don't have much in mind. I guess when it comes to 'beauty emergencies', I don't know much.

Anyway, here's the breakdown for today's box. I have arranged the products according to my preferences.

Neogen Miracle Lighting Eye Lifter 15ml, $30

This cooling roll-on type Miracle Lightening Eye Lifter is a total eye-care phenomenon that addresses all aging eye care concerns in all-in-one! Massage this roll-on applicator along the under eyes to gently distribute toxic build-up from underneath the eyes to revitalize, smooth, brighten, de-bloat and lift the eye area. It contains adenosine, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid to constrict the fine blood vessels that cause dark under eye circles and gives the overall look of exhaustion. It is also packed with loads of anti-aging ingredients, to recapture lost volume and increase the collagen production to reduce fine lines! Best recommended for dark eye circles, undereye wrinkles, bloated eye lids, crows feet, and sagging eye lids.
Finally! It's a Neogen product! I have been curious about Neogen products for quite some time now, and I'm glad Memebox included this particular product.

This was the spoiler for this box as well.

On another note, is it really acceptable to use the word 'bloated' to describe puffy eyes? It just sounds wrong.

Yadah Anti-T Spot Cream 15g, $15

This Anti-T Spot Cream boosts a fast-absorbing, creamy formula enriched with cactus, green tea, rosemary, aloe veram and sage extracts and completely free of paraben, benzophenon, mineral oil, sulfate, artificial coloring, and animal ingredients. Its gentle, naturally-derived ingredients are non-stimulating on even the most sensitive skin types and they effectively treat red spots and blemishes for a cleaner and clearer complexion.
What is a Beauty 911 box without an Anti-T Spot Cream?

This spot cream promises to 'treat red spots and blemishes', which sounds like a holy grail potential to me. I'll let you know how this works for me.

Shara Shara Bee Tox Toner 130ml $19

A mist toner for acne-prone skin types. It's formulated with bee venom extracts, propolis extracts, and tea tree oil, all well-acknowledged soothing treatments for relieving blemishes, controlling excessive oils and sebum, refreshing the skin for a cleaner, clearer complexion.
Okay, I wasn't expecting a toner, but this toner is so welcome to my stash. It adheres to the Beauty 911 theme, too, because it promises to treat pimples and other facial flaws.

So, I am definitely using this!

Mise En Scene Perfect Repair 70ml $16

This highly-concentrated Perfect Repair is to be used before and/or after blow drying to give your hair the silky, well-nourished finish. It's enriched with 7 different natural oils - argan, camellia, olive, jojoba, coconut, apricot, and marula - and its oil-like formula quickly absorb into the hair without making it sticky or greasy.
It's a hair repair serum! The brand is not familiar to me, but I think I'll use it because it contains argan oil and camellia, which are excellent when it comes to hair repair. I hope this wouldn't dry my scalp!

Vella Blind Sun Stick Protector SPF50+ PA++ 16g $18

I'm so sorry I forgot to take a photo of this product. The Vella Blind Sun Stick Protector is housed in a deodorant stick-like packaging. Imagine the High Endurance deo in white. They are similar in packaging. I'll definitely replace this with a photo soon, I promise!
UV Protection is a beauty essential nowadays with UVA and UVB rays being responsible for sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles, dulled complexion, and even stimulated and damaged skin conditions. This Blind Sun Stick Protector can be easily rolled on and it'll leave the skin feeling super soft and matte. Thus, it can be applied under or over makeup, as many6 times as needed, and as often as possible for a 100% protection agains the skin's biggest enemy.
To be honest, I don't find this product attractive at all. First off, it looks like a deodorant and I'm not too keen on using products like that on my face. I have this irrational fear of mistaking this as a deodorant and apply it on my armpits; or the other way around, use a deodorant for my face, thinking that it's the Vella Blind Sun Stick Protector.

Second, facial sticks tend to coagulate when they solidify. I hope this wouldn't though. I mean, I love the products that Vella produces. I just don't know how to use this well. Then again, I'm keeping this. I might use this on 'emergency' trips.

Cheek Room Lip Balm 05 Cherry Clover 12g $12

Cheek Room's adorable Lip Balm Clover is a true multi-player for not only moisturizing dry, chapped lips but also plumping up and reviving the suppleness of dulled-out lips. The olive oil, shea butter, and jojoba oil formula works to nourish and protect as well.

Ugh. A Cheek Room. And a CutiePieMarzia box leftover.

While a lip balm could be a Beauty 911 product, I'm not really happy to receive this product from Cheek Room. I have cheaper and cuter alternatives to this. I just don't find this special at all. Having said that, I am giving this away.

Overall

I think this is an 'okay' box. It's not terrible, but it doesn't have a 'wow factor' to it.

There were 5 products in this box, one of which is a CheekRoom/CPM box leftover. This is rather stingy of Memebox, because they used to put 6 or more items in the box and they rarely include crappy leftovers. In fact, it was rather rare of them to include only five items.

Is Memebox losing its touch? I hope not.

But then, all of the contents of this box adhere to the theme, so I guess, it's pretty acceptable.

Unboxing Post: Memebox Special #58: Beauty 911

Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Months ago, I was in dire need of a good sunblock. I figured that I needed at least an SPF30, because my job involves lots of outdoor tasks. I had a few tubes in my stash, but I admit I hated using them. It's either they're too sticky (and gross), or too smelly. There's one sunblock scent that I swear I could associate with poop!

But despite all those complaints, I simply can't eliminate sunblock from my daily skincare routine. I have to find a good one that I could stick to.

If you've been visiting Watson's in the past few months, you'd notice that there would be at least one salesperson who would sales talk you (in a good way, of course) into purchasing a sunblock you've never heard of. My mom bought one when she visited Watson's once; my dad got another, too; and, eventually, me, who was just casually browsing for a potential sunblock.

Believe me, neither one of us knew that the other had the same sunblock. I must say, these salespeople are good!

So, what did I buy? Read on...

I got the GT Carrot Lotion 4 in 1 Anti-Aging Formula SPF60 in 100ml.

GT appears to be a new brand in the market, and it's a Filipino brand, too! So far, I've only noticed this product in Watson's shelves. I heard they are available in certain department stores as well.

Packaging

Obviously, GT utilized the tube-type packaging for this product. It's the norm among sunblocks/sunscreens, and probably the best choice to house such. So, I have no complaints on it. The expiration date is also embedded on the tube, so there are no worries over using products that are way past their expiration date.

Formulation

The lotion is somewhat runny, and it has an 'orangey' undertone to it. No worries, though, because the 'orange' tone transforms into a white cast once it blends into the skin. Hence, the so-called whitening effect comes into play. Think of it more as a concealer, and not a 'whitening and brightening' product.

However, I don't quite like the whitening effect of this lotion, because it looks too artificial for me. For one, it doesn't come close to my skin tone. Two, it looks 'cakey' once dried. Three, it leaves white residue on the skin.

Nevertheless, these 'cons' are inevitable for an SPF60 product. You see, the higher the SPF, the whiter the cast, the greasier the formulation, and the stinkier it becomes. I guess, we're about to see a good high-SPF sunblock that don't do any of those things.

Good thing, my problem with this sunblock comes only with the 'whitening' effect. I'm glad to say that it's not greasy on the skin. It doesn't even smell awful! It smells like carrots, and I for one, love carrots!

I must say that this is probably one of the best I've tried in the SPF60 range. Good job, GT!

Effectiveness

This lotion is definitely NOT a whitening product; it's just a concealer, which you know, conceals imperfections such as dark spots. I could tell, because it hasn't made any noticeable improvements on my skin from months of use.

I don't think it's designed to reduce wrinkles, too. Unless of course, you'd count sun protection as its anti-ageing property, which is by the way, what sunblocks are for. Sun exposure accelerates skin ageing; so, it's always better to use sun protection whenever possible.

Since I'm fair-skinned, I easily get sunburns, and I know a good sun protection product when I use one. And this product does an excellent job at that.

Rating:

Packaging: 5.00 out of 5.00
Formulation: 3.00 out of 5.00
Effectiveness: 4.00 out of 5.00

Overall: 4.00 out of 5.00

This cheap product sure promises a lot, but I'm glad it was able to deliver more than what I could pay for.

Pros:

  • Packaging contains information that consumers might want to look into (e.g. expiration date, ingredients, etc.)
  • Available in most stores (e.g Watsons, local department stores, drugstores)
  • Excellent sun protection
  • Conceals imperfections
  • Smells like carrots!
  • Cheap at Php 215.00 (approximate)
  • Non-greasy
Cons:
  • Doesn't whiten the skin
  • Leaves a white cast on the skin
  • Flakey and cakey when dried
  • Available in only one shade

Yes, I will!
